That should silence the doubters who thought Tangmere wouldn't make it over Sapperton or would need a diesel to push! Spoke to driver Ray Churchill at Didcot stop - he was pretty pleased with the way the loco performed and said it only had one slight slip on a wet patch before the tunnel.

Ray Churchill seems to be able to coax some good performances out of 34067, I coulden't believe the speed she came charging up Dainton Bank last September with him in the seat, not just Swindon machines he excels with.

Nice pics and videos by everyone considering the rather foul conditions today.

My footage from yesterday's trip, seen at Cholsey, Lyneham, Frampton Mansell and Bourton. From what I'd seen of Frampton Mansell before it's usually pretty quiet, not yesterday though! I was amazed at how many people turned up and piled into the small space we had. Tangmere did do well up Sapperton though and I expect she surprised a fair few people with her performance!

Here's a clip of her sprinting through Twyford in the morning at 60mph and disappearing in a puff of (her own) smoke!

    Certainly looked the business yesterday.

Has anybody noticed the correlation between Tangmere breaking records or stalling with regards to drivers? Ray Churchill seems to get the best out of locos whereas a certain other driver seems to be in the seat when locos stall? I'm not making gossip, just an observation that perhaps loco's aren't to blame as much as people think?

Your not the only one to notice Benji, just goes to show driving technique is just as important as loco type and train weight, not saying other drivers are poor, but Ray Churchill seems a master of getting the best out of Bulleids and GWR types, didn't he start on the Midland Region ?, all the more impressive if he didn't start with such loco types.
