It's certainly looking tricky for photography tomorrow with the earlier timings and a fairly strong northwesterly wind forecast. From what I've heard the snow was north from Helwith Bridge, but the webcams suggest it's been melting fast today.

This one's quite useful as it shows the hills north of Appleby that provide the backdrop in the Keld and Long Marton areas.

This cam suggests a good covering in the Appleby area, but Armathwaite had hardly any yesterday:

The Nenthead webcam provided earlier usually provides a very optimistic view of likely snow cover as the village is over 500m up, so a couple of hundred higher than Ais Gill!

Good luck to all those heading out tomorrow - hopefully the wind, sun and snow will work out ok [-o<

Well the weekend has finally arrived, been looking forward to seeing 46115 on the S&C for months now, I shall be out at either Ribblehead or Blea Moor in the morning and hopefully providing on the roads being clear Kirkby Stephen in the evening. Anyone have any ideas for spots around the Kirkby Stephen area?? Rather looking forward to snow now :) Do we reckon theres much snow left at Ribblehead?

Simon, the roads are clear and there's still plenty of snow left at Ribblehead, and some massive icicles around.
The temperature is set to plummet tonight so watch for ice in the morning.

Look forward to seeing your vid.

Just uploaded my photos from this morning at Helwith Bridge. A very enjoyable day out, finally saw Scots Guardsman and what a loco it is too! Stunning to look at and a good performer too on the face of it. A big thank you to RalphW for driving me about too and to Alberta for updating us with how 46115 was doing.

There are my photos, hope you like them.

Went to Ribblehead Viaduct for 46115 northbound, Garsdale for the 20s northbound and then Appleby for 46115 southbound.

Unfortunately my camera threw a wobbler and refused to take any pictures... strangely it is now absolutely fine and I am not impressed! The only day I didn't take a spare camera with me. I ended up using the poor excuse for a camera on my phone with some interesting(ly bad) results.

The snow was fantastic, but I'd much prefer to do it again on a warm, dry summer's day.

For anyone who wants to know, Scots Guardsman had 12 on...

    99312 (support), 99304, 99350, 99316, 99371, 99125, 99348, 1861, 4951, 4973, 4905, 99723.
I was the one who went down the northbound platform at Appleby in the bitter cold wind to take down the numbers as a memo on my phone while everyone else was taking photos of the loco. Must be mad! #-o

    EDIT - http://cumbria.fotopic.net/c1650202.html
My haul of photos from today's jaunt.

Once again some great photo's out there chaps. Here's a still at Ais Gill from my upcoming video. A tremendous roar could be heard as she powered along Mallerstang, which I won't forget in a hurry.
