(I've been away from my computer for a couple of days, hence late response to those observations.)

Fair enough! I didn't mean to imply a criticism necessarily, but did wonder why the rescue diesels had taken so long to arrive, especially the one that had set off in good time from Carnforth but apparently taken 3½ hours on its way.

Can't have stopped at Hellifield and is now showing 90 minutes early at Appleby. Begs the question if it is diesel hauled.

WC loco's becoming too unreliable to even think about turning out, will have been a wasted journey for many.

Not a good start to the mid week season of 3 trains a week period over the S&C.

Definately needs a standby loco, goodwill far exceeds the costs

I wonder if Carnforth can "scramble" something for the return trip? UKsteam.info says 46115 is rostered for tomorrow's Dalesman, so she's probably in steam already. Is there any chance she could be prepared, given her FTR exam, and sent to Carlisle before 16:30? Or perhaps the fault on 45231 is such that it can be fixed back at base? It can't have been too serious or she'd not have been allowed off shed this morning, nor allowed to return unassisted this afternoon (one hopes!)

Have WCR purchased 45231, I knew it was for sale but hadn't heard of a change of ownership (taking note of the sad news regarding Mr Hichens)? Otherwise is she not just based (for now) at Carnforth much like Leander?

Come on this is WCRC, even if they have bought 45231 it will have been with cloak & daggers behind a smoke screen!!!

A double whammy today. Upset steam fans, and just think of all those poor diesel fans today in the front coach not being allowed to lean out to listen to the roar of the diesel engine on the climb to Ais Gill.

Not good is it? Two breakdowns in 5 days. One wonders whether 4 steam specials a week is a tad ambitious with current resources? Poor railtour passengers today won't know whether their train will be delayed hours by overrunning red signals or steam loco breakdowns.
