The outbound times will stay the same - NetRail are looking to see if they can tighten up the return.

And I think people are finding out because I just sent out an email to everyone on our mailing list!

The point I was trying to make was that when it was suggested that 5043 might haul the trip on here a couple of weeks back, those concerned got shot down in flames.

I'm still flying. It takes a lot to shoot down an Armstrong-Whitworth Whitley...

That was then this is now, we all know that NR sometimes change the rules at the last minute and if you read Bens post 20, it explains the reason for this change.

But it is a little sad that a bit of what appears to be insider knowledge that led to the original UK Steam tweak didn't also find its way to VTL. But then again, perhaps it did and they just waited till NR made the final pronouncement before announcing the change.

Buseng is just pointing out that it was known at least two weeks ago that the loco would change due to gauging problems. Did Ben not know this at the time?

    Ben stated
2 weeks ago they were still planning to use 4965.

Keep up. Read the whole thread. First post that there were gauging problems appeared on NP on Nov 3rd (although I think the rumour started just a little earlier as I heard it at Horsted Keynes waiting for the Bluebell Explorer).

OK so read the whole thread including,
"Officially we are switching locos from 4965 to 5043 "Earl of Mount Edgcumbe" for this one. There is an issue with Hall-class locos in the gauging computer that we are working to rectify. Unfortunately, we will not have the hiccup resolved in time to clear the Hall for this route.

Also from Vintage Trains email "Rood Ashton Hall” is going to have to sit this one out due to some erroneous data in the gauging system that cannot be rectified in time to clear 4965 for the trip."

This implies that that they were trying to rectify the problem and were still hoping to run 4965, but at this late stage to be on the safe side it was finally decided to use 5043 instead... and this was announced yesterday. Everything before that was pure conjecture on based on rumours.

To be honest, I've not yet had the opportunity to 'tick' 5043 from the list of mainline steam locos, so I'm about as happy as a card-waving Southern Railway fundamentalist can be considering a GW engine will be on the front ;).
