Oh dear indeed. Surely that must have been a genuine mistake ?

A chance for EC perhaps to gain some kudos by allowing those unfortunates to travel north to join the tour at Edinburgh for the return ?

It does happen from time to time unfortunately, even on scheduled trains.

That's good, but someone is going to get a wigging over this - UNLESS, of course, this has been done deliberately by Control to minimise delay to other services? We shouldn't forget that. There's more trains operate south of Newcastle than north.

No doubt we'll find out more in due course, but it's not the first time that tour pax have been left at the platform as their train sails past...

All sounds a bit Keystone Cops, lol

No doubt it'll be the subject of much laughter over a pint of something at JDW Edinburgh in a few hours !

Interesting point but if it was a Control decision, who picks up the tab for ferrying the pax forward to Newcastle?

Very true, but at least 'normals' aren't missing unique railtours, which is what we're looking at here. They may well be inconvenienced in other ways, of course, because of the delays, which is also not acceptable...

Yes, it is interesting but you'd like to think that someone at EC would see it as an opportunity to score a PR goal rather than one to make some more dosh !

No doubt I'm being exceptionally naive here ?

Was it EC? TPExpress & Cross-Country run more Durham-Newcastle services than EC. Whoever it was would, I hope, just accept it. It's only a few minutes' run, after all. Indeed, I've been waiting at Durham in the past for a train to connect into a Scotland-bound service which wasn't scheduled to stop, using cheap advance tickets which, as we know, aren't supposed to be used by anything but the nominated services. My connecting train has been late, but I've been allowed to get another service to Newcastle instead, even though it's been operated by another franchise.

In fact, didn't SD allow commuters onto a CathEx service a while back, as their scheduled service had been caped?

Anyway, back to the tour itself. Any further info? How late was it leaving Newcastle?

    You're welcome.

It's not running too badly considering it lost most of the time early on. It's stayed on a consisent pattern for quite a while now.

Yes, SD did do that I remember. TBEL did the same thing on 1st July when the platforms at Weston SM were awash with teenagers and others waiting to get home from T4 on the Beach. Both great opportunities to score a PR goal and introduce a whole new set of potential future customers to their terrific tours. They recognise a PR opportunity when they see it. I'm sure those at EC, TPE and XC do too but sometimes the archaic rules that still prevail on our railway prevent them taking advantage in a similar way unfortunately.

Good to read the tour is running well. Must be pretty hot on board so I'm sure everyone is looking forward to the Edinburgh beer and food stop !

Not too bad considering all that went on, hopefully the return run is less eventful.
