In Broomhalla's description of his Mid Hants trip he mentioned how he finally saw Bodmin, an engine he'd wanted to see for years.
This got me thinking about the engine I'd yet to see that I'd most like to tick off the list and, after considering Lydham Manor and Dumbleton Hall, I ended plumping for Bodmin too.
So, which engine that you've yet to see would you most like to tick off the list?

I think I would love to go over a Standard 5 or a rebuilt Merchant Navy.

Same here, Maeve has always had an air of mystery about it, would love to see it running too.

    Perhaps piloted by Dunluce Castle?!
Personally I would like to see a CDR 2-6-4 operating.

alas Maeve will have to remain a pipe dream I fear....her sheer size would restrict her to the Cork-Dublin route making it impractical to operate her, not to mention the pathing difficulties with an hourly (soon to be accelerated further) service on that route.

The red 4-4-O would be nice though wouldnt it (although rumour has it she needs a new boiler). CDJR 2-6-4t? well, a painting of one of them has pride of place on my wall and I would travel to see one of them go up the Barnesmore Gap without a doubt.

As Arthur says Maeve would be too heavily restricted to make it a worthwhile restoration.
I think I have mentioned on here before that Dunluce Castle was looked at a number of years back, as a sponsor was prepared to put money into her restoration. However, she needs a LOT of work, one of the things I remember was that she needed a new driving wheel, and I think there was a problem with the cylinder block too.

I would love to see the BCDR tank No30 out (maybe even at the DCDR), but from what I've been told, most of the engines in the UFTM are in quite bad condition mechanically and were just given a shiny coat of paint to make them look good when they were transferred.

A CDR tank should be running in the next 5 years - Drumboe is currently at Whitehead (RPSI) and has had quite a lot of work done, including forging new motion parts. Don't hold me to the 5 years though - that's just my guess! It all depends on funding.

I know that The Queens were orginally restricted to Dublin - Cork but has the infrastructure not been improved since then?

I don't know for certain, but I can't think of any major work in recent years that would allow her to run say on the Dublin-Belfast mainline. IF she was to be restored, it's 99% certain that it would be at the RPSI's workshops, and in my opinion there is no way she would be allowed to travel over the Larne line to get there/get out again. :(

1306 "Mayflower" is one loco i've always wanted to see, and i should be seeing her at the NNR gala in a couple of weeks!

Others probably would have to be a beattie well tank, 60532, 35028. 6100 would be good too, i think i saw her as a kid at Bressingham, but i can't really remember it!

Well after seeing Bodmin the other week on the Mid-Hants my hit list has shrunk quite a bit as i was able to get a good look at both Bittern and Can Pac. Them being in steam is not very important as just seeing them complete knocks them of my list.
    Still on my list are:
    Pendennis Castle
The last couple of manors namely the WSR ones and the one at Didcot.
    City of Wells
    Boscastle
And quite a few other engines that would be embarrassing to name as they are regular mainline performers.

Whats more embarrassing is that it was only last year at the GWR gala that i got to finally see City of Truro again after not having seen the engine with my own eyes since i was about 4 when it came to Truro.

It all depends upon how you mark off a 'tick'. Controversially to some, I also include name and numberplates of scarpped locomotives as a 'tick', albeit under a special category indicating this fact on the list that I am compiling. I also have a personal rule that if I see a part of the locomotive itself other than the tender (which in the case of Bulleid Light Pacifics could just as easily come from a Merchant Navy) when its in bits (ie. the boiler) and have proof of is providence, I count that as a 'tick'. Which is why I'm looking forward to going to the WSR Gala next month, as it has 34039 and 34053's boilers at Williton for repairs, which brings my tally of Bulleids up to 17 Lights and six MNs. Eastleigh will bring that tally up to 18 Lights when I see 34070 for the first time!

Now back to the topic, I would currently like to see 46233, 6023 and 46203 at some point. Also, I would like to see the more elusive MNs such as 35009, 35010, 35018 and 35025. I hope to see 35028 at the Eastleigh Works bash.
