I'm not sure. There was almost 30 minutes between the two trains passing me at Birkett Common. 61994 wasn't going much faster than the 66 was on the coal train, both were about 25 mph approximately.

Another 12 hour nightshift completed, another Haymarket to Bangor via the S&C trip completed. Knackered myself so much that I slept in for the Cumbrian Mountain Express today. Shame...

Next two weeks I start my nightshift weeks on the Wednesday so will only be able to see it around the Carlisle area. Any spots? I'm considering Cumwhinton, but need to do the spots by public transport and be back in Carlisle for the VT to EDB around 17.05

Anyway, my solo shot from yesterday, Horton-In-Ribblesdale :

Does anyone know what was amiss on the return leg? There may have been an incident with some woolly objects at Armathwaite. Not likely to cause a problem but there is always the unusual. The engine was certainly not at its best, it may have been due to a small defect compounded by slow running service trains. If it does need a repair (beyond the obvious cylinder drain cock) I hope that it is something quick and relatively easy. Mind you this is a steam locomotive .........Anyway John Cameron's engines have had enough gremlins with No 9 and things running hot that shouldn't.

Reportedly a blocked spark arrestor was at fault on the return, requiring a stop between Garsdale and Blea Moor to clean it.

Thank you for that. It won't be the last time one of those gets blocked. I wonder if WCR have had a change of coal supply? Thinking back to the coal discussion elsewhere.
