Thinking about it still. Waiting for a degree of certainty to prevail.

Yes I'm booked on it. Apparently it is confirmed as running (as I have had to pay the balance via a very large cheque); or did you mean certainty over the loco line up?

I'm booked on it too. Did Gb2 and 3 and thoroughly enjoyed both.

Yes - just that...and there is now the 'one way' steam to Wick. It's still a good trip though.

So its 45305 with Oliver Cromwell on Day 8 of the Great Britain IV. Disappointed that there wont be 2 Brits. This combination would have been better Preston to Bristol leg with the loco doing that on the Bristol Penzance leg.
Oh well,I will still be out for it,cant afford to travel so second best is lineside.

I am a German steambuff who - after German, Polish, Czechian steam experienced British steam the first time last year (NYWR). After viewing pictures and videos from the "Great Britain III" I got the idea of linesiding "Great Britain IV", but due to my almost bare knowledge about British steam, tracks and streets it seems quite hopeless to do this on my own. Are they any "linesiding tours" ore is anybody willing to tka me "under his wing". I am fluent in English, in general a humurous person (accept somebody is walking into my pic in the last second before the train appears), having quite high requirements regarding the quality of my pics and can offer my car for the linesiding.

I would be grateful for any help

I've been told by a fairly reliable source that 6024 has failed the gauging process for the Preston to Bristol leg of the GB4 (one assumes it doesn't fit somewhere between Preston and Shrewsbury).

    5029 will take 6024's place.

It would appear that Bittern is now running as far as Tyne Yard on day one where SNG will take over for the run to Edinburgh according to uksteam.

Hello Michael and welcome to the forum.

I am not sure who may be following the whole tour but perhaps between a few members on here we could help out in regard to different sections of the tour as to lineside locations, reasonably priced accomodation along the route, best route to take to get ahead of the tour etc?

    Neil.

Hi Michael, there are several members who will probably but following the tour to video it on a semi professional basis, They know who I mean so maybe one of them would be happy to oblige as an extra person will help to spread the travelling costs.

    Ralph.

    Dear Neil, dear Ralph,

thank you very much for your reply. I would be happy if I could join some of the members of the forum on the tour. Despite the fact of cutting the costs it´s more fun to share the experience of the steamtrains.

Day 3 of this trip now involves road coaches from Inverness to Wick apparently, not a mode of transport I'm comfortable travelling on especially long distances.
No doubt that means an early morning start as departure from Wick is expected to be around mid morning time and it's at least a 2 hour coach journey to get there. I doubt there'll be time for any sightseeing there then :noidea:

If this is the case how is the stock going to get to Wick? Surely passengers can go with the stock albeit diesel hauled.

The stock is going up overnight from Inverness it seems.

The stock moves north, diesel-hauled, overnight, after the Day 2 arrival at Inverness. The pattern of service trains on the Far North is such that it has proved impossible to path a train, even diesel-hauled from Inverness, and then return steam-hauled, without a ridiculously early departure and equally late return.

As the purpose, this year was to get steam to Wick, this is the way it has been effected. Of course, this is also possible because the A9 is far shorter, as it generally follows the coast and avoids the detours inland.

    Dornoch bridge anyone?
