U.K. Steam is showing day 9 Carnforth to Peterborough. Will this still go by Copy Pit or via Keighley?

The trouble is, the doomsayers would immediately open a thread entitled: "Riley Announcements - Discussion Thread".;)

Either route is interesting, as it would either entail a rare southbound run over Copy Pit, or a slightly less rare stroll from Carnforth to Settle Jcn. Having just looked at the map to re-acquaint myself with the railway geography of Leeds around Holbeck, its impossible to get from Keighley to Wakefield Westgate without a reversal, so the rare crossing of the Leeds-Huddersfield would be to access Calder Bridge Jnc. (East Chord) via Woodlesford. Then it would be through Fitzwilliam to Doncaster, which would also encompass fairly rare track between South Kirkby and the junction with the ECML.

  5. Tour is servicing at Exeter. Anyone hazard a guess at the next watering hole. Plymouth maybe?

Tiverton and Plymouth are the normal watering locations, and having done the run by steam to Penzance in 2010, there's only a pathing stop at Bodmin Parkway thereafter. Usually water at Plymouth and Exeter on the return.

Wrong about what? As previous posters have stated, WCR actions resulting in a prohibition order for ORR, I think the first ever. We are all very grateful that the matter has been resolved and we all agree that WCR have to be very careful not to fall fowl again. Ian Riley is a top bloke and has made valuable contributions in the past. Still can't quite work out why he would pull the plug on contributions! Oh well. Life goes on.

At least one poster claimed that WCRC had cooked their own goose and would not be running trains ever again - or words to that effect.

Read back through the West Coast thread, there were those who were almost gloating over their possible demise and some, supposedly in the know, declaring WCRC were toast or they knew for a fact they would never be allowed back on the network. It was all nonsense, the only people in the know were WC Management and the ORR and as you would expect they were saying nothing

I cannot believe that any true steam enthusiast on this forum would gloat over the demise of West Coast because their demise would have knocked the stuffing out of mainline team and take us back to the days of SLOA with a fraction of today's mainline steam. Those who really wanted WCR to crumble and fall, are surely either non-steam fans or those who just wish ill of anything or anyone.

Right now it's business an usual and we should be eternally grateful for that.

Err - can we stick to the subject, please? This more general discussion of the WCRC saga has it's own thread. When I saw this one had been updated, I thought someone had some new information about GBIX...

  20. Anyone in the know about Tangmere? Apparently just been declared unfit for Cathedrals.
