    Re: The Great Britain V - 2012?

UKsteam.info has been updated with two more loco changes. 70013 takes the second leg of Day 1, from York to Edinburgh, and (# fanfare of trumpets #) 5043 will join 4936 on the final day, from Bristol to London via Gloucester.

The agreement for 5043 is quite significant, since it is the first time for a while (possibly ever?) that a Tyseley-owned loco has been used on a non-Vintage Trains tour. It's also a big commitment for the support crew, running trains on consecutive days with an overnight stay at a "foreign" depot. I know some loco groups operate like this a lot of the time, but it's relatively new for the TYS gang. So, without wishing to sound patronising, well done all round, let's hope it goes well, and is something Bob Meanley & Co wish to repeat (occassionally) in future.

4965 appeared on a Cathedrals Express to Chester 18th August 2007, with Kinlet Hall from Bescot to Chester and return.

5043 now seems to be removed from Uksteam. Perhaps this is no longer happening.

    Re: The Great Britain V - 2012?

Certainly looks like it's not yet confirmed, though it suggests to me that 5043 is still the most likely candidate at the moment. Such things have happened before - GWR4090 hears from one source that such-and-such loco will haul train X, then someone a little closer to the loco says "oh no it's not". More often, the message is something like "we're in discussion, but there are things to agree first, so please wait until it's sorted out". Sometimes it's a publicity thing (like waiting for a press conference); sometimes it's making sure enough support crew members are available, and can get home in time to go to work the next day; sometimes it's a financial or insurance arrangement... I think we all understand how these things go. In any case, I hope my earlier post hasn't caused problems for the discussions, nor for David R.

Two other changes have appeared on UKsteam.info, affecting days 4 and 5: the Fort William leg now terminates at Ashfield, and the run to Stranraer starts from Barnhill (not "Branhill" ?), rather than one of the Glasgow termini. My guess is this simplifies re-marshalling and stabling the stock on Tuesday night, and the ECS move on Wednesday morning.

    Re: The Great Britain V - 2012?

The final day of last years "West Highlander" started from Barnhill and then ran via the GSWR. This was due to lack of platform space in Glasgow Central at the time departure was required. Passengers were bussed from their hotels in Glasgow to Barnhill. It could be a lack of platform space in Glasgow Queen Street if 61994 is due to arrive from Ft. Wiliam at rush hour / peak time why it is terminating at Ashfield

I'm assuming there are no turning facilities at Stranraer for the trip on Wednesday 25th?

    Re: The Great Britain V - 2012?

So excluding the time at York to change locos, that's 12 hours to Edinburgh for 400 miles. Plenty of time to look at the passing scenery then. Such a pity that better pathing wasn't possible

With no path now available for a 7 start from ncle to kings x, steam is being slowly strangled off the ecml.

Glad I'm not booked on this, these timings are pathetic.

From RTC or Network rail ?

ultimately NR have pathed the train from Thornton to FW . Presumably Rannoch is water and a pathing stop . Maybe everyone gets to dine at the hotel at Rannoch ? Nice spring evening could be absolutely delightful

    Re: The Great Britain V - 2012?

There are quite likely to be revisions to the GB V timings, so I will not publish any more times at uksteam.info until closer to the event.

    Re: The Great Britain V - 2012?

Thanks David . Does that include existing timings published ?

couple of quick questions for anyone in the know

Berwick loop , north or south of the Royal Border bridge ?

Trip to Stranraer . Confirmation the line electrified as far as Ayr ? and do we know which way the Fives will face . I've heard suggestions of both north and south
