Were you out there with a friend? Two people who looked younger than me (I'm 27) walked past me while I was sorting things out with my car after taking the shot.

You did far better today than your dad and I expected - well done. The one and only comment I would make is that I prefer the train in the landscape type of shot or at least another ten degrees round rather than mostly front end - but each to their own - I stayed here watching the rain and got nowt! with or without a tripod!

    Re: The Great Britain V - 2012?

Cheers Frank, completely fair comment and totally agree, wanted to do better than what I ended up with at Maybole particularly but sadly couldn't find anything as it's so treelined so gave it up as a bad job :( . Thankfully the two mile walk through the bog/forest to get to the Barrhill shot was worth it in the end, especially now I have found out that it was the exact spot of two derailments on one evening in 1946!! (See caption on fot....)

You must be well pleased with that set of shots Mark, I particularly like the one at Loch Gowan. :thumb:

Shame about bloody wind farms spoiling the scenery.

    Re: The Great Britain V - 2012?

Well Just got back from 5 magic days chasing steam around Scotland . 120 images to sort my way through and upload

It was great to catch up with so many people not least James and Nigel at the Kyle and and a very big thanks to both for allowing me to see GB5 at the sharp end and fulfil my own dream to travel the Kyle line with Steam . The coaches and comfort of them and the attention to detail is superb and to see the amount of planning and logisitics that go into making it all happen , you appreciate the tremendous work that goes in

It will take me a while but i'll sort my images and upload soon

If you check the forecast on the Met Office site I think you'll find it has - Sunday looks dire. I hope to be at Sapperton, but if its raining stair rods.........................? I will have to make a decision on Sunday morning.

I agree, it looks dire. Will be pretty spectacular though, especially if 5043 can't find her feet on the main 1in60 gradient! The noise won't be bad either :)

I wouldn't worry about the forecast - it (the weather) changes so quickly at the moment it's hard to predict a few hrs hence never mind days. Met office app this morning had heavy showers for us this afternoon - been bright and sunny virtually all day!
