Al! How could you forget that.

    Waterloo dep 11.00

    Salisbury arr 12.20, dep 12.24

Sidmouth Jctn arr 13.38, dep 13.44

    Exeter Central arr 13.58

2 Hours 58 minutes of sheer joy. And that included the time at Sidmouth Junction to detach a portion.

Given that Scotland hasn't had much rain since the 3rd April, and there's not a huge amount forecasted over the highlands in the next two weeks, what are the chances of fire risk safety measures being imposed? Especially as there were lineside fires at Bo'ness yesterday.

Thanks! I must be a few years out of date as I had it in my mind as just over £1,500 First and just under £2,000 Premium.

Further to my post, lineside fires reported this morning on the Strathspey Railway. Some good rain needed in the next week!

Anyone know for sure if this is true? I see from the informational email they just sent me the 44871 does show double-headed with the 45407 in the "brief itinerary" from Inverness to Aberdeen, but the 44871 doesn't appear anywhere else (including the detailed timings and notes) other than the Stranraer trip. I'd hope that's for real, but I wonder if that's just a typo?

No idea but Carnforth-Grange is only about a 20 minute run. To be honest the promoter and WCRC should be applauded for lighting up a locomotive for such a short run.

Agreed. A nice addition to that part of the tour.

I suspect anything that runs to Grange will be swiftly returning to carnforth for stabling and servicing as cannot think of anyway anything can stay in Grange without blocking the main line. I suspect it will also have a diesel attached to the rear at carnforth to drag it back.

Indeed yes Wedgie and could easily be improved on. On two occasions I timed an on time arrival at Exeter after 9/10 minute late starts from Salisbury due to delays earlier on. Both were sub 70 minutes Salisbury to Sidmouth with 90 plus downhill and some fantastic hill climbing. It was a point if honour by the Exmouth crews to pass their home depot on time.

I don't pretend to know the rulebook on such a thing, but observations over years tend to concur with the view that the 35/45 restriction only applies when a tenders leading the formation.

46233 is apparently not going to be available for Day 3 Bristol-Carnforth. Replacement motive power has not yet been announced.

Thinking along the lines (excuse the pun) of a possible replacement of the Duchess by Black '5' locos, 44871 and 45407 are appearing at the NYMR this weekend. Is there any possibility of vacuum brake locos 45231 and 44932 taking part in the tour between Bristol and Carnforth? <BJ>

Oh dear, I guess that means she's still having axle-box problems. What are the alternatives? Braunton would be my pick, provided LSL can get a support crew for another 2 days (they'll end up in Carnforth on Monday evening and have to get home) and provided they can be shown to fit the gauge all the way. (That probably rules out Nunney Castle.) You'd think that a West Country can go anywhere that a Duchess can go but will NR accept that? Riley's Fives are appearing at the NYMR gala at the weekend, which I think rules them out. 44932? 48151?
