Points failure at Oxenholme. All trains delayed... again.

Edit: trains on the move. 46233 arrived roughly RT at Carlisle.

The Duchess has looked good today but is a complete irrelevance because of the undifferentiated use of the diesel. We even got a push downhill after the tsr at Beattock

It's only WC doing what it's told but it is so sad that such a prestige trip has this done to it. You can understand the worries in the west of Scotland but to extend that everywhere is such a shame.

Is it fair to assume that 46100 and 34046 will be smoke-box first for the run from Penzance on Saturday?

I'm planning to go to Camborne for their brief stop.

Exactly as I've felt in recent years and hence why I'm not on GB10 ;-)

How is this 'steam ban' in Scotland affecting the Jacobite?

Was no criticism, just a wry comment.

In truth, so far the weather and GBX should have provided what will have been a photographic delight and at a fraction of the cost of being on it. I would say that only a very small proportion of people on the train - the pure steam folk -would see the down side of it all, as it's turned out.

There are only a handful of us timers on it as tbh it's really not for us. But the fact that it is by no means full gives you clues that some people don't want to part with their money on such a lottery.

Having said all that. Flying Scotsman, Kyle and the Highland ML have been unmissable so far. Let's hope that it was just ScotRail that wanted to spoil things.

Met office reporting April as one of driest for 100 years (even in Scotland!), so the restrictions are understandable really. The south had some rain at the weekend so hopefully things will be less flammable further south.

Can sympathise to an extend, but even in NE England, we have had very little rain for 6 weeks now.

Gorse on our golf course has went up 4 times in the last 2 weeks, and looking at ground conditions, it is only a matter of time before it happens again.

In that respect, and knowing NR's remit to keep traffic moving, the steam doing less work/ Diesel assistance is wholly understandable.
