Just as well it's not going further than Plymouth then,
although I suppose it could get caught up in the delays

Odd. Looked on RTT and there were no significant delays to Plymouth or further on to Penzance today. Only 1 Pad-Pnz this morning was significantly late, 15mins down, but that left Pad 24 down. Been watching NR Latest Travel News off and on all day so far and that has had nothing about delays between PLY-PNZ.

Anyone on board online? Did Taunton-Whiteball really take almost 15mins?

Well, BRI to TAU took 73 min and it is a leisurely schedule apart from the last leg to Plymouth where a load of 10 should make the Duchess bark a bit.

The Great Britain certainly looks good this year. A crimson Duchess hauling 10 maroon Mk.1s.

I did smile after searching for news of the train at South West Rail Gen. As the charter reached Exeter there were just two reports about the Duchess but three about the light engine diesel. BJ>

Looks like an impressive Newton Abbot to Dainton Tunnel, 4 1/4 mins showing on RTT.

RTT suggests that the Duchess has matched times with Clan Line (17/06/18) between EXD and PLY. 61 min overall or thereabouts with a quicker entry through Mutley but more or less exactly the same point to point times to Lipson Junction.

So honours even with similar loads between a Duchess and a Merchant Navy. That seems fair enough and 61 minutes the other way to beat tomorrow,

Probably the closest we'll get to a direct comparison of capabilities between the two with same route, same load. Seems pretty impressive on both counts, although I can only really comment on 35028's run last year.

    What's the schedule?

Edit : seems it's 65 minutes so unless the crew feel the need to lop four minutes or more off booked timings........................

NA to Dainton Tunnel look to be as close as it gets as 35028 did it in 4m 14.9s cf RTT's 4 1/4m for the Duchess. From Newton Abbot to Plymouth RTT is showing 38 1/2mins for the Duchess. My timings show 40m 36s for 35028 on 17/6/18. My timing for 35028 from Exeter to Plymouth was 62m 18s start to stop. Would like to know what anyone got onboard as RTT doesn't always get start to stop timings that accurate.

Sean Emmett of this parish has 62 mins 20 secs start to stop for 35028. The other factor to take into account is the weather, which was drizzle.

Indeed, and as I said, the entry to Plymouth beyond Lipson (reached in 58 min with Clan Line) was slow by about a minute on normal times. And then we have a full 10 coaches with Clan Line and almost certainly a smaller gross load with the Duchess (all First Class plus space, I'm guessing).

That's all splitting hairs. Both runs - today and last June - are comparable imo, and good.

The UK main line steam site used to link to the booked and actual times per Real Time Trains for some time after the trip, but link to last June' Clan Line trip has gone awry. Useful to relate RTT start - stop times to stopwatch times. Yes agreed was a slow run in with Clan Line.

I'm sure the are plenty of the usual suspects on board the GB taking logs!

Am in Scotland on a rover and may rendezvous with it at some point to find out how's its been getting along.
