This programme was good with coverage of Bert Hitchin's Black Five 45231 working from Fort William to Mallaig. The presenter had a quick chat with Frank Santrian and the support crew posed in front of 45231. Plus we had the bonus of historian Bettany Hughes :smt055 presenting a part of the programme too.........
If you missed it it is on again tommorrow morning at 10.25 on ITV 1. It's well worth a look.

Ive just spent a wonderful week in the West Highlands and paid a long overdue visit to the West Highland line and the Jacobite. I rode the final train of the season on Friday and the weather wasn't great, however, I did a rare (for me!) bit of linesiding the day before and was rewarded with some of the best conditions i've ever experienced in the Highlands. The locations are obvious around Glenfinnan, but still spectacular, and we caught up with the return trip at Morar. The journey is still undeniably the finest in the country and the performance is suprisingly sprightly for a black five with 7 over the rollercoaster line. The noise from the chimney was extremely memorable, I hope Mr.Riley (who I think was on the footplate on Friday) enjoyed it as much as we did!
