I think one of the highlights of the Jacobite years both lineside and on the train has been experiencing locomotive types that worked the line in steam days. B1s did make it to Mallaig occasionally. A shame theres no K2 or J37,

Yes, I was in the same spot as you John. 30 seconds earlier it was ultra-dull and raining! Bob Branch - who was of course the organiser in those days - was there as well, and after it happened some photters were almost throwing themselves at his feet in reverence! At that moment, the mantle of SunGod was worn by someone else!

Most of us had one question for Bob; where are you going next! I recall when we first heard the K1 working up to the summit before the viaduct we were being pounded by hailstones

Only a scanned slide from October 2003 but a view that sums up the West Highland Line and why so many of us keep going back. The K1 has been renumbered for the charter as For William's 62052

Speaking of setting hares running, may one make a request?

Shots of the K4 anyone? This for me anyway is the peak.

This does not have the stunning quality of some of the contributions above but I hope it is of interest:-

This is the occasion in 2013 when the K4 was leaving on the RTC's West Highlander weekend train while the K1 is on the Sunday Jacobite. Stood next to the K1 is Driver Bobby Duncan who sadly passed away last month - another good man gone!

The lighting conditions weren't great, but 62005 was facing FW when she hauled GB7 away from Mallaig on 2nd May 2014
