Just been told by the driver who was supposed to take it to Chesterfield tomorrow that it's cancelled completely.

Whilst I didn't see a yellow stripe on the cab of Scots Guardsman yesterday it does seem that the 'not south of Crewe' rule still applies for a few LMS locomotives! I guess we are lucky that we were able to get as far south as we did even with the alternative motive power up to Whitmore and after Colwich.

On a more serious note, from what was said on the train yesterday, one gets the impression that this was a sensible early intervention by the support crew to stop the Scot at Rugby. In the grand scheme of things, had the Class 47 not been with us, things could have been even more inconvenient, notwithstanding the contingency plan with Virgin Trains.

Let's hope that damage was minimal and the Scot can be returned to traffic soon.

That's a lovely clip and a good illustration by Ron Smith of how to get a heavy train away with a good 14 cars equivalent. Yes, we are on a 1 in 180 down but you still have to judge it well, which he did.

The Scot has returned to Carnforth this afternoon (Fri) under its own steam.

...and at a decent pace it would seem from RTT so nothing untoward then? Early intervention worked.

Sad to say, your Oxenholme shot is one of the few on the day with the Scot taking the whole train (including diesel) away from a stop. Plenty else went on during the day after Crewe that looked nothing like that. :(
