    The loadings do seem excessive, but I must admit that when I saw these advertised I assumed that it would be a 5 or Black 8 job merely as it is a somewhat sloggy/pedestrian route with only the short section Preston - Carnforth where speed is needed.

    Apart from Wilpshire what are the gradients like?

    What is pleasing in the present climate is that they can fill a 13 coach train for what is not the most inspiring of itenery with limited steam.
