Don't believe what you read in the papers (even if they are electronic). The Compass and SRPS websites show both of their tours are cancelled (RH says they are running). Pathfinder website also confirms their tour is cancelled and I believe the VSOE is cancelled as well.

As 5944 says, the RTC website was updated at 14.00 (after the cancellation of the Market) saying that both their tours are still running (although, to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if that changes). As at about 12.45, Steam Dreams were still running, but they may not have made a firm decision by then.

You can take it from me, whilst most of the diesel tours now appear to have been cancelled or diverted elsewhere, it is still the intention to run the three steam-hauled ops to Lincoln, ie. RTC from Newcastle and SD from KX, on Friday, and RTC from KX, on Sunday. NR are aware of this and in agreement, subject, of course, to the weather conditions.

Should this change, I will advise, via this thread.

I'm really wanting to see Nigel Gresley and Bittern in Lincoln on Friday as i haven't seen any A4's in steam this Year. I'm hoping most trains will be running as scheduled though as the journey from Barnsley to Lincoln changing trains at Sheffield is nearly 2 hours. The forecast looks Promising for Friday so no heavy snow to worry about.

The Steam Dreams trip has been cancelled according to the website. Passengers may transfer to another trip before end of 2011.A possible additional trip to Lincoln in the spring.

Reminds me of some fella that sat on a chair on the beach near Hastings - he had to admit defeat in the end too!

Everyone else - including the franchisee TOC, is warning of either no service, or severe delays, in East Lincolnshire, and the weather forecast is showing no improvement either.

GMTS Christmas Cracker is still on at the museum at Boyle Street, Manchester, this weekend for those staying closer to home, but wanting their transport fix.

I've just been for a nice trip from Peterborough to Lincoln sussing out locations for tomorrow's trip. D'oh! It's quite bad in Lincoln, and there's nearly a foot of snow on the platforms. Most services cancelled or delayed. The city centre is very quiet, but very slippery. I only spent an hour there and that was long enough, good luck to the hundreds of people on the charters!

Does nobody think that there are those travelling from further afield to board these charters, who,if they were able to get a part refund would not travel, but instead end up risking their health by going to catch a train that should,in theory be cancelled. Not just RTC,there are others running that in these conditions shouldn't be,I imagine it all comes down to money at the end of the day.

Just to note - all the other Lincoln charter promoters, steam or diesel, have cancelled following the City Council's advice not to come to the city consequent on the cancellation of the Christmas Fair.

After sampling east of the Pennines travelling conditions last weekend, including packed snow on ungritted roads, and freezing fog, I'll stay west side thank you!

No 6 is tucked up safe in her shed!

I was tempted to drive down to York in the morning to see it but given the current amount of snow about I don't think i'll bother... I feel sorry for the ones that have travel to the stations and actually try make the train.

The MET. OFFICE says bright and sunny Mark.

There's a good shopping centre in Lincoln and some great pubs as well.

Quite amused by some remarks on this thread. The TOCs/NR are damned for failing to keep services running but when a tour company says it will go ahead, it gets damned for running the train.

If RTC want to run, NR are content to accept the train and we can operate it, I fail to see the problem - it's what we're all here for.

TBF does, it must be said, have personal 'issues' with RTC.......
