I get the impression that winter maintenance has been kind to 45699 this year as she seems to have emerged in great form (no doubt i will regret saying this when she fails....).

Looped at Grayrigg to allow pendo and TPE to pass. Set off from there like the clappers, roared up Shap then continued at around 75 most of the way to Carlisle. Galatea obviously in good form, driver in the diesel insisted that he did not assist.

Yes but we will be making an unscheduled stop at Whitehaven to drop off a passenger who thought this was the 14.xx to Birmingham.......

We had a stowaway the last time we came around the Cumbrian Coast; he got on the wrong railtour by mistake.

We wined and dined him, not threw him off at Whitehaven. Shame on you Ralph!

Come on @RalphW - I thought you would have known better. The Birmingham train goes "whiiiiiiiiiiiiizz", and the steam train goes "chuff". Now, repeat after me, the Birmingham train ...

Hell's Bells. Last one for a good while I guess.
The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has today issued a Prohibition Notice to West Coast Railway Company Ltd (WCRC) preventing it running its heritage rail services on the mainline railway.

LMS 5XP Class 4-6-0 No. 45699 'Galatea' puts on a fine display as it speeds through Greenholme with the northbound 'Pendle Dalesman'

I assume the Duchess would be barred from the Cumbrian Coast!

The ORR could probably find a reason to ban just about every TOC. Whilst they may have better management systems than WCRC, those systems are not 100% effective in preventing mistakes by train crews. Network Rail clearly regards steam on the main line as a burden and anachronism which it has to accommodate, so the only way for it to survive is by meticulously conforming to every single requirement.

Thanks for those Stephen, the shots at Wigton and Bootle are typical of what some have called the 'boring trundle round the coast'.....
