When we leave Hellifield I'll take a walk along the train playing my usual game of 'spot the bums' as this is the only way of recognising forum members, as they seem to spend all of their time with their front ends hanging out of windows.:becky:
Steve from GWR, spare a thought for us poor support crew members who will start work on Friday morning and get home in the early hours of Sunday morning coupled with a night at Carnforth sleeping 'on the cushions', no fancy hotels for us. Mind you if you would care to make a donation to put us up at the Carnforth Hilton it wouldn't go amiss.:violin:

We may take advantage of the hour and a quarter the train will spend faffing about between Tyseley and Wolverhampton, and go get on there instead. Can probably leave home about quarter to five in that case, rather than quarter to four. There'd better still be some breakfast left though!

Salty, I much appreciate the efforts of the support crew, the Earl always looks fantastic and lets hope for a 5-star performance on the day.

Anyone here going to be filming us crossing Ribblehead?

A Hilton..... I assume that you have never been to Carnforth.....

Seriously though does this mean that you are bringing her up to Carnforth on the Friday then - thats great as whilst my father is flying over from France for the train it means he can also get to see her in action through Lancaster!

Just to echo - all the efforts to uphold the honour of the GWR Castle are greatly appreciated - just hope that you are spending the next week hand picking the best coal for her.

    Thanks again!!

Kevin, your plea so touched my heart that I have just spoken to Bob Meanley, and he said that if you can find the Carnforth Hilton, the rooms (and breakfast) are on him :)

I haven't I'm afraid, but I guess it's about an hour or so from the Carlisle timings.

I will do text updates from the train on the day, so if you subscribe to the RailTour Live system I'll be able to keep you up to date on our progress.

That's very kind of you, Steve, and will be greatly appreciated by those north of Birket Tunnel or south of perhaps Horton In Ribblesdale. Mobile phone coverage between those points is very poor - as Ralph, Linesider and I found a few summers ago when I tried to let them know that it wasn't raining north of Appleby...

I just hope we have a signal from time to time on the train that enables us to send updates!

My thought is to send place/time updates eg "through carnforth at 10.00" plus (if I know it) whether we're ahead of or behind schedule. But best if you have the scheduled times for the trip with you, once they're known.

Thanks for those times Stephen. I have a bit of time owing at work so will hopefully see the LE move at Golborne.

That doesn't quite make sense, if there's people on here in Coach J, I for one are in Coach H with my brother, I would of thought it would be load 10. I remember on the Cornishman asking the Train Staff, and correct me if I'm wrong, they do the prospective train load based on ticket sales, therefore with the trip sold out I would of thought it would be 10 as a minimum.

I would also of thought it'll be the BR Green 47 as per the Chinnor & Cornishman run as appossed to a West Coast 37? I would assume the 47 after Hellifield would run light to Crewe and stable until the return of 5043.....

Either way, a bit of uncertainity is the spice of life!......said 47 could be under maintainence, County of Essex could be on hire....etc etc...
