Perahps the train is running through Birmingham New Street in order to save the time needed to crawl down the Sutton line and round to Water Orton etc, meaning everyone can get home much earlier!

It is going via New street. Is steam to Bescot confirmed? On train itinerary says Crewe still.

Have a look at UK Steam info.Could be a late change from what was originally planned.Could be a box in the train from Crewe to Bescot.Makes sense to take the steam off at Bescot to save a path from Crewe and the slow running round Sutton Park.If it is Steam to Bescot and unassisted this then becomes a good day out and I hope that they do get it.With either Poole or Churchill in charge there should be something worth while.

Update from train. On return journey, been told D1755 will double head with 5043 from Crewe to Tyseley, making us the first steam through New Street for 50 years. It will be working, not dead in tow

The Earl passed Settle Junction on time and fairly going for it, 47 seemed to be ticking over but based on speed I would think a little help departing from Hellifield had been given. Picture at the following link http://www.flickr.com/photos/mottyphoto/5085546311/

Will 5043 be the pilot or train engine?

I have heard the train has not been turned at Carlisle so good news for those who were worried about being at the back for both directions.

I went out to Hellifeild and Helwith Bridge this morning and off to Warrington for the return later. I will post up a vid later.

Well done to all those involved with the Earl, looked absolutely immaculate in the sun at Hellifeild this morning.

Nice to put a face to a name as well Kevin whilst you were waiting for the tour to arrive at Hellifeild :thumb:

Thanks for that Steve, I had subscribed to the wrong tour and wondered why I hadn't had an update all day.... :behindsofa: Even worse if anyone has been following the Weardale on the text update system apologies for informing you that it had passed Helwith Bridge at 11am etc.... :embarassed:

The original plan was for the 47 to haul 5043 and train from Crewe to Bescot. This meant an awkward shunt at Bescot to release 5043. The Diesel to work back via New St, and 5043 to go via Langley Green (Rev) Snow Hill, Tys. After some consultation with NR, they agreed that 5043 could stay on the train as long as it does not actually 'work' through New St. Steam is banned from 'working' through New St due to the fire risk at underground stations.
