The diesel was there because 44932 was banned from running unassisted for setting fires around Rugby on Friday on its way to Southall (firegrate issues apparently as reported earlier) not because of a fire risk in the region. The train manager bartered with Network Rail to allow the box on the back. They wanted it on the front to control the train but gave in. Ironic that they were obviously right.

That was a pointess remark or perhaps one of a troll.

Hold on, if it's the firebox/ashpan area on 44932 that's the issue than the exhaust, why does how hard it's working make any difference ?, a fire is a fire whether the regulator's shut or wide open.

Not at all. There are quite a few on here that think they know better and NR should have no say in what runs on the Network and is likely to cause delays.
Proves that the ground is still too dry to allow steam operation.

Oh yes, it's Desiro 450! What a pr**k to say something like that when us steam fans are going through such a bleak period. He should go back to the playground and have fun on the climbing frame!

By the way, before anyone jumps to conclusions, pr**k means prank of course !

What a nasty evil piece of work you are. Everything you say on this forum is just to wind everybody else up.
Things are bad enough without your stupid remarks. Why don't you clear off and play with your toy electric train set.
I defy you to make that remark to two trainloads of people who could have their day ruined at great expense.

Looks like I am not alone about '450's pointless post. Why is he on this forum if he hates the enthusiast market so much.
Just to annoy & wind people up I reckon. Obviously hasn't got anything better to do.
Is he paid by NR to defend them?
Mods please note, he is just a troll & wind up merchant.

Ok so it was a provocative comment because lets be honest , the best thing to provoke a response is to put a diesel on a steam tour and arms go up in uproar . And guess what, round the corner comes at least one of the usual suspects who sees the bait and bites with some style .

What do you want a few happy people on a steam tour or hours of delays for thousands on returning holiday makers because of damaged signal cables ? plus all the penalties which Network rail have to carry since charter penalties are capped . Sat in NR control I know what I would do .

The national network is not for steam anymore. Steam is allowed to run , but if it is to continue then its own house has to be in order.

I hope both Buseng and HH realise perhaps how foolish they look now and may wish to moderate their own posts accordingly or if they really object use the report button

Hi there Sidmouth. I am afraid you are the purveyor of gloom and doom which must be music to the likes of Desiro450. Following the end of BR steam in 1968, steam has been back on the mainline for 42 years YES, FORTY TWO YEARS and no negative post from you will stop it carrying on for ANOTHER FORTY TWO YEARS!

I am perfectly content (and so, I suspect, is Buseng) in chastising Desiro for such an immature and pathetic contribution to this forum. I regret to say that you run a severe risk of falling into the same category.

    Good post Martin.

And how many on a tour with a diesel tucked in behind the steam loco because of fire risk are really unhappy about it being there when they know why it is there?

I have a hunch, (only that, I don't know), oft mentioned before, that the majority of those on the train aren't really bothered. Such as Ralph would know far better than me because of his work as a steward. Face to face contact with the punters all day. And he comes across as a level headed guy who wouldn't twist words around to suit his own preferences.

If I was on such a train of course I would be bothered, because I'm a steam timer. But we are a minority.

And on the lineside, again, said before, the dual traction to me makes a change and dates a trip to a hot summer year. There have been just a few mixed traction photos posted here this summer, and one or two of those have been very good.

I am going to regret asking this as I really don't want to learn about boxes.

But why are the 47s called duffs please?

Did I really ask that question?

Why are you having a dig at me. I haven't said a word about the why's & wherefores of what's happened. I am having a go about certain people who just like to cause trouble by posting provocative posts as you call them in an already delicate situation. As a mod you should see this, but obviously you don't. Actually reading your remarks, you actually encourage such behaviour on here. You wouldn't like to spend £100+ to have your day ruined & then have to put up with stupid childish comments from the likes of Desiro450.
Just re-read your post, why should I feel foolish & moderate anything? I stand by my words, Desiro450 is a s<>t stirrer & revels in it.
Yes, I did consider reporting said post. But did not think it was worth it, now proven by your response.
No doubt the other mods are on your side, talk about a closed shop.

Probably for the exact reason of what's now happened to '237

Surely you can see that to respond with your own pretty childish comments "Why don't you clear off and play with your toy electric train set", is just one provocative post in response to another, meaning that you are lowering yourself to his level.

Sending out locos with known fire starting abilities on a dry sunny day after lots of dry sunny days does more to damage the charter market than anything I or you may write on a forum. As has been said above, despite what you think, steam has no divine right to run on the mainline and why should tens of thousands of people be delayed because of any potential incident because of a known firestarter?
