Hopefully the cl47 will be sent to Par "light". If it is on the back over the Devon Banks it will spell the complete ruination of this trip.

Great! Main reason I booked was for a Castle on the Newquay line.
    What's the excuse this time?

This should be a great and noisy trip with 4 locos for haulage? 2 steam 2 diesel!

Yes we also wanted the castle not the brit....but oh well...odds on being RTC all we'll here is the 47 because we'll be at the back as usual! Not that i don't mind being at the front for the 47 on the sea wall but i want standard at the front on the way out for this one..............but time will tell.
    Cheers,
    Mark

Fantastic a Brush out of Newquay in 2009! Lets hope it isn't the rancid body snatcher but if it is the engine off Southall should be ok..

If that's the case and it remains as it is it would be 245.....

Gauging issues again? Nunney isnt going to do the Penzance-Par section of the Great Britain so could it be out of gauge for Newquay aswell?

I did the last two brush hauled trains out of Newquay in 87 and looking for another go... The climb up Luxulyan in the morning was almost as memorable as the Devon Brush bashers v the rest of the world football match at 7AM on the beach. Even the BTP turned up for the occasion. Great days. Only the Virmin tram drag and Royal duty have a Brush them to North Cornwall since. Worth the trip to Cornwall on its own. Brit out of Penzance solo will also be rather nice...

As an aside I have never understood why people like David don't rate 47s? They certainly ain't Duff (that was D200!) and out lasted all the other engines of the same era with the exception of cl.20 and 37s trundling around on two flask wagons! Perhaps they don't like successful designs and would rather see a Deltic, Log or Western...

See some of you down there!

    Cheers,

Yes I know, just thought that as its bringing the Royal Duchy to Westbury it might as well go down to Par a wait for the tour to arrive and tag on the back to bring it back to London.
I sure Pegasus will explain why it cant do it,if indeed it cant.Champion could still get to Bristol for the Great Britain.

Would have thought fuel would have been an issue with the Western.? BZ would be the only option while a Twin can go down and back with plenty to spare

Well considering the intinery is effectively changing a Castle for a 47 i doubt many would be too happy at the change!, i don't particularly hate 47's but they come across as lifeless things with very little noise or character compared with other classes, very much the 66 of the BR era.

Brush lifeless, no noise? Obviously never had one on 14 over Beattock with a VXC right behind or thrashing up Luxulyan at 0630 on a wet rail or load 17 over Druimuachdar with a stag watching proceedings? Yep all very boring and quite......but certainly nothing like a 66! I had a choice of all the classes to bash from the early 80s and like many selected the superior Sulzer traction...seems funny how there is not alot left so many people have started to appear to photograph them!

Anyhow back to subject bring on April 5th with a Brit and Brush in Cornwall...brings back memories of fantastic pair of 47519 and 70000 all over again....

I think we'll agree to disagree then Hunslet, anything EE slogging it's guts out up the Lickey is my prefered choice of music.

More like smoking its' guts out as it staggers over the top if it was a log....

PS Can not beat a pair of RFD brush over the Lickey...very impressive accelerating all the way to the top having been 'checked' at Bromsgrove!

No point in argueing, some people like EE some people brush/sulzer some people Hydraulics, some people GM's and some people units.....the less said about them the better!it is something that can't be concluded, just like steam really! Although in this day and age you should take what heritage traction you can get,it won't last forever, bit like steam, people will (and most certainly have done) take the 47's for granted, but when they are gone from the mainline for good and all we have is foreign muck,then......

    Cheers,
    Mark

Totally agree Alberta...and I assume any English Electric or Hydraulic enthusiats on the tour will be getting the bus back to Par and then a tram home to avoid the 'boring' Brush. Did the 8F to Plymouth on The Stanier Hind and went home on the VXC Brush to avoid log31..cost money but a far better choice!

As I said before hope to see some of you down there enjoying the fine mix of traction. Should be a good day!
