There would be enough time to fuel at Exeter or St Blazey as 70013 and 5029 have 2 water stops after Westbury.

How about remarshalling the train at Par to put 70013 in the middle,
then run it as a push-pull to Newquay & back!!!

    Its all change again !

    D1015 Paddington-Didcot
    5029+70013 Didcot-Bristol-Exeter-Par (not Via Westbury)
    D1015 Par-Bristol
    47xxx Bristol-Paddington

Sadly, both engines are out of gauge on the Newquay branch, so train is now terminating at Par.

There will be a special running on the Bodmin & Wenford Railway.

    Unbelievable!

So the Newquay line was a red herring all along?

Are NR sure that 5029 & 70013 will be able to squeeze through the middle of Royal Albert Bridge? After all clearances there are a bit tight.

FC and me will just have to throw out all the planning we have done for this trip as originaaly proposed!!!!!!
Such a dissapointment not to be doing the Newquay line.Still Whiteball,Dainton and Rattery are not bad, then get D1015 at Hemerdon, sounds like a good day out!!!

Typical Network Rail only just realising that they are out of gauge. Why accept a tour along there if they aren’t sure whether they'll fit! The Newquay branch was the main reason im on it, but am used to steam tours be cut short nowadays but at least we have higher steam and D1015 mileage!

I'm sure it's a coincidence, but at least Notwork Fail won't have to go to the trouble of specially opening the Newquay line now.

#-o It seems unbelievable that one month ahead of the train actually running NR realise the locos. won't fit!.Anyway,we still get a decent steam mileage and a diesel variety as well, hope there are no more amendments to the plans, however!.

I have to say that although I appreciate the idea of steam starting at Didcot it messes up my plans for the trip. For those of us from the Bristol / Westbury area it means finding an early train to Didcot. That said the gloss had gone off the visit to Newquay with the duff on the back for me. Actually I think this is better.

So how many can this Diesel thing take un-aided over the Devon Banks? I suppose the train will be 13 with two support coaches. So it’ll be 11 for the diesel to bring back.

UKSTEAM says the Duff is from Bristol back to Paddington. Does this mean steam is taking the train from Par to Bristol as well?

This diesel "thingy", D1015 Western Champion, will take the train to Bristol no problem.
I assume the train will loose the support coach as well as the steam thingys( 8-[ ) to make it load 12.I did The Royal Duchy with D1015 back in August 2003 when she took 12 up the banks in Devon in fine style.

Just out of interest I dont think anything much bigger than a Hall was cleared for the Newquay line in BR days, although obviously the line has changed a fair bit since then.

Castles & Countys worked to/from Newquay on summer saturdays.

It seems you'd be lucky to gauge anything bigger than a Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch pacific there now!
