I'm on this and have no idea what will haul it. However, by a process of elimination and assuming that it doesn't break on the CCE on Saturday then one could guess it might remain in steam for the Salopian.

Is not the CCE 25th, after the Salopian on 22nd? 45690 on the Salopian?

Quite right. So all we need is something that will handle the load and Gresford on its own....please!

Report of 45231 on test at 10A makes me wonder whether it may be in the frame as a means of transferring to new owners at Crewe?

Slight change on outward leg; now shown stopping at Helsby and not Frodsham.

Clearly the performance on the Chester-Shrewsbury section will be one of the big highlights of the day, and I've just noticed from RTT how smartly timed the Salopian will be over this section.

Bearing in mind that there is a ruling 60mph speed limit for locomotive-hauled services over this section, achievement of the allotted 16 minute start to pass allowance for Chester to Wrexham General might just qualify this run for a Blue Riband/ "fastest-ever-by-steam" accolade. By comparison, 5043 on VT's Chester, Wrexham and Shropshire outing last October (the most recent steam up Gresford, I believe) managed 17' 15" with an absolutely blistering performance up the bank, so hopefully tomorrow may likewise bring something rather special.

Similarly, the overall start-to stop time of 55 minutes shown on RTT for Chester to Shrewsbury makes the previous 71 minute equivalent allowance for VT's outing look positively pedestrian .....and indeed the Earl proved this to be the case with an actual time of 57' 06" minutes over this section ,with Load 10 for 390 tons gross.

So, can the Earl's efforts possibly be bettered ?? Timing devices at the ready.......Looking forward to reports of the outcome with much interest.

Nice day for photos on Shap. There's a motorway somewhere up there.

Currently at Preston while WC attaches 46115 to our train having removed a diesel from the front AND the rear.

Perhaps this proves once and for all that when there is no operational reason for having a diesel in the mix then they don't use one.

    Just saying.

Swept across Winwick Junction at a speed that might be the envy of the Pendos. Taking water at Helsby with Mick Kelly posing for photos.

Nippy run from Shrewsbury to Crewe. Late away, early at Crewe and had to wait till time. Slow path onwards so have baled out but a great trip with DG having a good day.
