Re: Locos on Scarborough Spa Express

45407 for the first two weeks it seems followed in no particular order by 5690, 45231 and 70013.

And arrived in Scarborough just about on time still with 45407 (but without the light drizzle).

I notice 45407 is running with 12 coaches quite a load round the Harrogate circle even if its relatively flat out to Scarborough.

A not very good photo (the light was starting to go) of 45407 at Headingley this evening doing pretty well with 12 on.

    This is a standpipe key

You turn it full on and your tender gets filled up within the alloted time.

Your train does not lose its path and your passengers get home before 01.00

The arrival time of 21.25 at York is too late for certainty of getting home to other than main terminal stations

Was the train late back to york last night? Only seemed to be a few minutes down last night, was planning on going round the circle tonight - but my last reasonable train back to sheffield is at 940!

    21.50 at York

The 21.45 which is the last train for other than principal stations westwards drove past us on the opposite platform face as we ran towards it.

We engaged in a bit of mobile phone pleading etc to get the three of our party home.

Its the first time we haven't made it - but with the five on duty, we will have to consider detraining at Harrogate in future if circumstances demand

    This is a trainspotter -

They pretend to have an intimate knowledge of running a steam tour when in actual fact the closest that they have ever come to doing that, is flicking the switch on a Hornby control box.

With proviso that the water company are running the main at a decent pressure.
From experience, the pressure in some places is nothing short of scandalous. I suppose that if you reduce your mains pressure, then you lose less water through ancient leaky pipes...

Oh dear. That's after the last train to Kings Cross, the one I have to catch when I do an SSE. Hopefully August 31st's run will be trouble free.

I'd be surprised if water pressure was the problem. It was very good last year and, on the trains I travelled on, the water stops in each direction were very quick.
I suspect that there were other reasons for the delay getting water.
Jubilee fans might like to note that I'm told that 5690 is now expected to do just one week followed by 45231 for two weeks before 70013 does the last two.
