Hopefully will be a fast run to Chester on the outbound run too-already decided on Beeston Castle outbound and Old Colwyn on the return for my shots.

5043 at Beeston is pretty rare, and would be my choice of location.

Thanks for the suggestions. Might go up on the tram and then walk down. Don't want to be in one spot all the time.

Looking at the forecast, any aerial photography will probably result in a shot of a cloud and lens full of water :(

I was thinking of a shot from the top of Beeston Castle in one direction or the other but then a snag arose, the Castle is open from 10am to 6pm and the Castle is due to pass the Castle at 9.50 and 7.20.....:(, but on the other hand looking at the forecast probably wouldn't see anything anyway... Oh well back to the routine stand in the middle of the field getting wet shot....

There's a foot crossing not far beyond the Castle towards Chester (just outside Tattenhall) which I'm using. Hopefully a fast shot will be in order just before the rain arrives.

The funny moment when someone in a field at beeston, who resembles a certain NP mod, gets buzzed by a light aircraft.

He wasn't the only one; I was at the foot crossing just beyond Beeston Castle and also got buzzed. Needless to say words were said at the end of my shot (which I will be cutting out...)

Second time in a row for me after a light aircraft flew over Cefn Viaduct spoiling the video of 44932 and now today at Beeston. The plane was definitely following the train, makes me wonder if it was the same one as at the viaduct. Anyway, no video just this still frame from the clip; S1640002.JPG

Ah, so it was you I could see on the bridge in the distance Austin, at least you're not the only one to have a shot ruined by that plane, which is why I'm going for a second attempt at Shed Lane (Chester) later.

Great shot Austin, shame about the light aircraft following as they are damned annoying that's for sure .

Austin, sorry to hear about the plane. Would still like to see your shot. Any chance you could put it on Private and send us a link on YT. Don't think iv'e seen 5043 on that stretch before.
    Regards, Liam

Are you sure the aircraft wasn't taking Ralph over the castle walls? No room to land a microlight so maybe he had finally found a use for his SAS parachute training. The man in the field was probably just a cardboard cut-out to fool everyone. Or his twin brother.

A short video of the Earl at Aston juxta Mondrum this morning and Holywell Junction this evening:

I'm saying nothing about light aircraft - just glad to be able to still see steam playing out on the big railway.
Besides I'm already lugging round a catapult and marbles in case one of those drone things turns up and to add an anti-aircraft gun seems, well .........

Footage from the foot crossing just beyond Beeston this morning with the aircraft noise drowning out the beautiful sound of a Castle at speed for the most part (in other words until 5043 was a couple of hundred metres from the camera) then on full power departing Chester and under Shed Lane Bridge this evening.
