Well at least they did get steam one way, return would be mostly in the dark. just had a feeling this trip would not go well, so decided to give it a miss. "Dja ever get one of them days boys, dja ever get one of them days, when nothing is right, from morning till night, boys, dja ever get one of them days" with apologies to Elvis Presley.

The class 47 light engine has Just gone over chester le street viaduct... Shame about the steam but it makes sense.

I've given up, missed the morning trip due to lectures... Never mind although we had a sensational sunset behind th viaduct, would have been really nice :/

It does - at least those on board have a fighting chance of getting home tonight now...

Really bad luck today for Bittern & her crew; not a nice thing to happen.

Did the Duchess claw any time back, does anyone know? I think she was on a pretty tight schedule already, wasn't she?

Probably straight to Carlisle, not a lot of point in going back to York.

A mate of mine is on board and said 60019 was 93 late into York and 6233 was 114 late into Newcastle as they were checked repeatedly after leaving York. According to him the initial plan was for 6233 to return the train to York and the 47 to bring it back to London so looks like there has been a change to that idea.

Just remembered that while I was out earlier I heard on a traffic report that there were delays on the ECML due to signalling problems in the Doncaster area??

To get the sunset, i take it you were down by the marketplace. Their is an even better "unknown" location , that gives a picture as good as durham. Send me a pm for details..

No, I was up out of the way of Chester Le Street, in a field just off the A183 looking down at the viaduct with the sun behind it. Would have been a nice silhouette sunset shot.

My brother on the train was informed that 6233 had the same coal as 60019. When they got to Newcastle the fired died and couldn't be recovered which put paid to the idea of Sutherland taking the train back to York.
