At the moment you are right, I'm not on this trip, but being booked on the one on 9th July I'm quite interested in how this one goes! Although when the final details are announced for the 3rd I may ring up and see if I can buy a ticket. I know late bookings don't help the promoters much but my priority has always been to time 30777 in the down direction, ie the 9th July trip. And I've been spoiled in Germany where it was common practice for the regulars to take over the front coach corridor and buy a ticket when the on train staff came through during the journey!

And yes, even the mention of a GWR tank has got a rash appearing all over my face!

But............. I did follow with interest the recent trip that went almost to the USA it was so far West. Who knows what may happen in the months to come. LOL!

Sincere apologies for causing extra workload to WCR, NR and Swanage Rly managers.
I've no idea, of course, how much additional workload my postings have caused compared with other's postings on this, and other, topics but will take your suggestion in the spirit in which it was written and cease forthwith.

For the sake of clarity, I hoped, I changed my original 'signature' to remove the mention of the Swanage Railway.
Since there still seems to be an impression that I represent the Swanage Railway may I affirm that my postings are personal views and have absolutely no connection with the Swanage Railway.

Uksteam shows 44932/46115 for the trip on Saturday but surely it's odds on for 46115 given the loco's respective current locations - not to mention the fact the 5 only had its loaded test run yesterday!? I really hope it is the Scot because I've seen the loco only once so far - static - at the Carnforth open weekend and haven't seen it in full flight yet!

Does anyone know any good lineside locations between Basingstoke and Winchester?

Well folks tickets and letter arrived this morning for 3rd July Swanage Belle:

30777 Sir Lamiel is working the trip from Victoria to Swanage and then from Southampton to Waterloo with a diesel section from Swanage to Southampton. Letter claims that 30777 is the ONLY loco currently available to work the trip. Whats up with 46115 I wonder? Only timings I can remember from a quick look this morning are 10.06 from Woking in the morning and a 17.15 departure from Swanage in the evening. Please note return timings are not confirmed yet!

Edit: Tmings now on RTC website:
    Actual Timings 3rd July 2010
    Station Depart Return
London Victoria 08:41 TBC (London Waterloo)
    Staines 09:33 TBC
    Woking 10:06 TBC
    Basingstoke 10:53 20:40
    Swanage 14:15 (arrive) 17:05 (depart)

Battledown Flyover area is quite good. 3.2 miles West of Basingstoke. Maybe just towards the Basingstoke side before the Salisbury line starts curving away would be better at this time of year because of vegetation growth at the spot near the flyover.

Thanks for the advice Bryan. I've never photographed anything at Battledown so would be worth a go. I might try and take a decent step ladder in the hope that'll give me some chance of shooting over the vegetation!

Thanks GreenFive for the timings - very useful.

You are most welcome guys. Beware there might be a diesel in the formation (on the back is likely) going by the thread for todays run with 5029. We need a lot of rain tommorrow.................

As said elsewhere, I am actually quite relaxed about a train being headed by a steam + box combination. Provided I am not travelling on it!

So I for one would love to see any photos taken of today's trip to Swanage. Lets see who can capture the atmosphere of such a double headed combination.

37706 at top of Parkstone bank at 1839 with gentle but steady help from Sir Lamiel
Train running late due to earlier problems at Weymouth and up waterloo service running late.
Sir Lamiel looked lovely in the evening sunshine DH

The box was due to pull the train from Swanage to Southampton where it reversed.
