The return of the Q6 should have eased the situation a bit, whilst it also depends upon whether the contract for use of 61994 was also rolled-over with the trip. 45231 would have an agreeable maximum speed for the sprint up the ECML, although I can never remember whether 61994, assuming this is the second locomotive, is 50 or 60mph. However, I suspect this wouldn't be such an issue if this or potentially 45231 is being dragged at the back of the train.

I'm more interested to learn when 61994 last visited Whitby since its arrival

I know it visit during March, but to my memory has been confined to Grosmont - Pickering running.

In other words is it okay to run on NR metals?

This has now been moved to April 2nd 2016 for all the operational reasons we suspected. Bookings are being transferred unless otherwise requested.

Don't worry about it. Depending on further postponements you might well have moved again.

Despite being reasonably young and in good health, I might well have 'moved-on' myself at this rate...

Probably need my head tested, but I persevered and kept my booking. With hindsight, its a good job I did, as it is now £10 more expensive, so I'll be a fairly happy bunny if this runs as planned next year.

Same view here. And assuming that there actually will be two steam locomotives as advertised then it should turn out to be one of those rare 'proper' steam charters.

...confirmation of what was safely anticipated...

With regards to your booking on The Wansbeck on Saturday 2nd April 2016 we are writing to inform you that the tour has been cancelled.Despite our best efforts following the temporary suspension placed on West Coast Railways by the ORR (Office of Road and Rail), the alternative operator who we have sourced are unable to run this tour for us, therefore we have no option but to cancel the Wansbeck train.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the undoubted disappointment and any inconvenience this cancellation, which is outside of our control, may cause.

What was within their control though was how long it took to come to that decision as anyone with half knowledge would have worked out that DBC would not be interested in playing push-me-pull-you trains in the northeast with at least two crews needed. It would be unfair to say that the RTC has enjoyed a year holding the money of a full train of people on a promise but that is what they have effectively done.

Not surprised at all. It's going to be a guessing game from now on as to what will or won't run. I just hope that everyone has a good look at their schedules at a faster pace and sift out the weaker propositions so that the passenger can book with some degree of confidence given the circumstances.
