Possibly because of a preceeding "normal" Leeds - Carlisle service. Once it leaves Hellifield and passes Settle Jn, Settle Junction can't allow another train onto the block ( Settle Jn - Blea Moor ) until the first has passed Blea Moor; was there such a train in front of the Waverley ?

Fred - I'm afraid that you are a bit out of date with your S&C signalling. Many of the longer sections have now been broken up with the introduction of Intermediate Block Signals. The Settle Junction - Blea Moor section has IBSs on both the up and down lines in the vacinity of Horton in Ribblesdale station. This increase in track capacity over the S&C is one of the reasons that there are now so many more steam specials over the line these days.

Excellent running from 46115 today with 13 behind the tender. Slightly late this morning on the climb to Blea Moor but a little early if anything tonight on the return. Must have been able to hear her all the way from Ormside where we were (Birkett) as the sound built up for about 20 minutes.

A rather windy day to say the least. 46115 putting in some great performances.

Today's shots include Gargrave Viaduct, Horton In Ribblesdale Station & East Garforth. Full video coverage is on the 'Part 4' DVD.
