Reportedly took over half an hour to get from Hitchin to Stevenage. I can't remember the exact times, but about 20.30 passing Biggleswade I believe. However, I did see an email on one of the gen groups saying 47500 had passed Hornsey around 20.10 (I think) heading north, so perhaps they knew they had problems a lot earlier in the trip.

from the timings i saw it all went wrong south of Huntingdon running mostly early till then. Then loosing 24 mins between Sandy and Hitchin and a further 40 between Hitchin and Stevenage. Before it got terminated 84 mins late and detrained. Not sure what the fault was the only code i could get was ME (steam loco failure/defect/attention)

    thanks al

The best info I have at the moment is that it was delayed leaving Peterborough to allow for a late running up express to go ahead of it. This put it out of its path so was stopped at Biggleswade to allow an up local to overtake and regain the up slow south of the station. Set off from Biggleswade in fine style only to be seen next crawling through Hitchin. Quite what the fault was and where it occurred is as of yet unknown.

A sad end to the day. I had managed to see her pass through the site of the former Scrooby station in the morning and then she made a lovely sight passing through Doncaster about 10 early on the return. A not particuly good photo looking straight into the sun at Scrooby is below and a video of both locations to follow.

Yes. IIRC it was joked that they were class 50 because they only had a 50% chance of arriving and were usually seen running around in pairs.
