Hardly, given that I recall it was the Carnforth folk who sorted out the bearing problem on the Duchess that hopefully will ensure she can run at a better pace contrasted with when she was on the Scottish Lowlander.

Keep the faith... I don't remember ever riding behind 46229, so this means this saturday will be my first ever run behind a Duchess..

it seems 86259 has a wheelset problem and won't be on the trip this Saturday, but what about the other Saturdays to come....

Oh dear, that's not a good sign, hope for all involved that a replacement can be found...question is what electric is currently operational and available at short notice? When this happened on the trip I was booked on a few years back the tour had to be rescheduled.

87002 perhaps? That would seem the most obvious one to use. I'm sure if it's not at Wembley at the moment it could quite easily get down there before Saturday morning.

87002 came south a few days ago for an exam, but I don't know if it's still at Willesden. 86101 is at Willesden though.

87002 is back at Mossend for ice breaking duties. Still it's not as if snow/ice is forecast ....

Note that Railway Herald has shown 46233 working from Crewe - not Carnforth - yet the times on RTT still indicate engine change at Carnforth. Does anyone know which is correct ?

Well, it's hard to see much else happening at Crewe on 31/1 at 0936/0938 except a station stop and this LE movement seems to be pretty conclusive but funnier things have happened.

Is 46233 at Crewe or Butterley at the moment? Must be a LE move to get it to Carnforth?

The first 2 have always been 46233 from Carnforth, while the third was originally due to be from Crewe but is now from Carnforth.

Little bit worrying when you cant fill a train running over the Northern Fells in the winter with the Duchess on the front, must admit i would have been tempted at this but for being up in the far north of Scotland.

Well they can afford to discount after last Saturdays they only had to pay for one engine with the failure of Leander so it saved them thousands but nothing for them that was on the train.

Was inclined to agree with you, but Keith's point is a good one.
