Surely then, if you start to cross and you notice a train approaching, one should return to behind the fence/gate and one should not stand gawping at the passing train or quickly set up a tripod ( which one just happened to be carrying) to take a photograph. I'm sure any driver would not want to see anybody, anywhere near a crossing. They have enough to think about, without worrying about what these people on the crossing are doing.

Sorry going totally off topic for a second!

Have the NRM decided to charge for this event? I think its crazy that its been free for so long, how many other museums/galleries etc are free?

Ok, on the whole I throughly disagree with all this instant accusation "wrong side of the fence" crap, its tedious and pompous and the people who instantly get on a high horse need to get a life. However, in this case, I am prepared to accept this is so blatant that the people involved need to be branded as complete -aholes. Here is someones video to prove it. They couldn't even give it a faint air of legitimacy by staying on the line of the path. Wandering up and down the line is a complete no-no

Ian, great photos, like them. Your headboard question. Palatine was a regular on the Midland so at least 3 hours or the trip could have represented that particular named express. if memory serves, it was a regular 'Scot' turn although in later years possibly Britts had a go. I'm now open to being corrected, it was more than 40 years ago !!! lol

What a day! Fat Old Miserable Basta.d liking something Mr Knowwun has posted!

But in this instance I agree, as I for another certainly don't like the instant pomposity on these matters. (That would make me a Fat Old Miserable Pompous Basta.d)

But, purely from what the video appears to show, this does seem to me to be blatant trespass.

And is this the location that caused a bit of friction earlier?

If people don't like the UK system, then go overseas to those countries where the law is different and there are no fences. I, like many, have enjoyed much freedom in such as South Africa, Germany and Austria.

But in the UK doing what we have seen in that video does the main line steam scene no good whatsoever.

PS. On a mountaineering Forum I once used , my nickname was Ugly Fat Basta.d. I did a mountain walk with an Aussie member from there once, and when he got back on line he stated, "Well Bryan, you didn't look like a Basta.d".

    Trespass? Obviously.
    Dangerous? Not at all.
    Worth frothing about? Never.

But when this gets reported by the driver of another train, traffic is slowed/stopped and delays occur, this is not what the charter business needs. Note I'm not picking on steam here, the problem is also there when a couple of 20s appear on a passenger charter. Photters emerge from the undergrowth everywhere.

And that Ralph is the whole point.

As I said, if anyone wants that freedom, go photting in those countries where the whole culture is different. i.e where the obligation is on the public to stay away from the tracks, although safety and obeying local laws should still be the priorities. Not as in the UK where the Railway has an obligation to keep the public away from the railway with such as fencing. (Just my very broad view on the subject). It is the law over here and we should abide by it as there are consequences which have the potential of being very serious to main line steam and other charter operations whether or not anyone has put themselves or anyone else in danger.

And now to the serious part of Ralphs post. OK, how do you know about what happens when boxes are hauling railtours? Is there something you want to tell us Ralph?

I enjoy stewarding on rail tours, and sometimes they are diesel hauled ones....

Another good photo Stuart. Taken at the same place as 'Coal Fired' featuring DOME ???...You seem to be kneeling down for Oliver though !! I've still got a soft spot for the 5043 photo which is going to take some beating; although you've come VERY close with the Duchess....Pete

I agree but sanctimonious pontification on NP will make no difference. (And I agree also that my previous sentence is sanctimonious pontification.)
