Hi 34007 I'm only on about the fan drive assembly unit and not the complete power unit (engine). I'm not sure what you mean about the sound of the exhaust. Maybe you could elaborate on what you mean about the sound I don’t understand

If you get up close i'm sure it can be heard?! Although it probably needs an experts on both Locomotive Units to tell us???

Network Rail's Sandite/Deicing DEMU No 930301 (which has two ex class 205 motor coaches) is currently at St Leonards Depot and Hastings Diesels also own a class 205 DTS (currently at the Lavender Line) so I expect they do have spares for Hampshire units down there.

I think the Dartmoor railway had a local Foundary produce quite a few fan clutches aswell, i'll make enquires.
Every DEMU in preservation has suffered through those fan clutches. Why not change the design?

The Lavender line as I understand it are not planning to do anything to their unit! It always stayed outside the shed with the plan to move it on! And that is a friend whom has worked down there and told me as such from the management!!!
So I think they can get a great bargain from the Lavender line as far as this is concerned!!!

Quite right, we've never held spares for DEMU's. You may be lucky with Selhurst as they were indeed their last maintenance location. All our spares are for 455 & 458 (if we're lucky enough to have what we need in stock).

I do try not to be a spelling and grammar pedant, but is it really necessary to end every sentence with an exclamation mark?

How many packs of razor blades would a Thumper make?

In absolute seriousness I believe we are missing a great opportunity for the fledgling scheme in Dunstable to acquire their first item of rolling stock . What could be more perfect ?

There we go National Preservation - connecting people , recycling rolling stock

Do Thumpers have any of that nasty insulating material that we don't like to talk about? :-k

No idea but they have lots of windows, door hinges and door handles/catches that make them a bit of a C&W headache.

  19. Because Portapotty disposed of them in comparatively recent years, I'd be surprised if they'd been allowed to pass into the hands of preservationists with any of that insulating material still present. It was quite a few years ago that various Class 26s, etc, had to be all-but ripped apart to remove it, before being allowed to pass into the hands of preservationists.
