Water Bowser broke down en route to Grantham, so had to use hydrant. On our way down Stoke as I type.

31 late off Grantham water stop cut to 3 late at Finsbury Park. Sounds like a good run!

Oh joy! But wait - wasn't the Duchess reversing in for tomorrow's SD to York? Takes the gloss off a little!

Take a great loco, add a great driver, strike lucky with a trusting NR Control and you end up with inside even time from Grantham to Stevenage. Clearly Jim Clarke takes after his father. Passing Peterborough at 77 was unexpected and rather nice.

Just heard as I forgot about the run Tornado on the NLL between Gospel Oak and Hampstead Heath with I assume the ECS sounding like it was in a rush to get to bed.

Jealous of what sounds like a great run today.

Fantastic run, with some rare track thrown in. The glide through Peterborough reminded me of going at speed through Carlisle non-stop by steam this century: rare, invoking thoughts of 'will it, won't it', and ultimately enjoyable. Stoke bank was good, but even our time in the slow line was well spent. DBC manned trips seem to be the way to go on the south ECML these days.

I would be interested to know what trains went non stop through Carlisle ,let alone at speed.

SVG to P Bar 20m 03s max 71 before Hatfield.
P Bar to KGX 27m 04s max 58 Hadley Wood.

Super day out. One of a number of excellent performances I have logged with it on the ECML.

Leys summit is at MP 62, betw Peterboro & Huntingdon. 1:200 both ways. Tornado can hold 70 with 13 on if pressed.

I meant south ECML. Anyway, 45699 went straight through this May to Oxenholme. It wasn't about the speed on that occasion, just the prospect of a non-stop run through Citadel.
