Not seen the facts on that yet, and am reserving judgment until they're published.

A little more respect for the dead would be in order IMO.

Please guys what has this got to do with Tornado and this event? Mods can another thread be opened (or located) for people to continue discussing this subject elsewhere?

Fair enough, but learning out with your arm fully extended is unlikely to end well, as unfortunately happened.

But that was electric - not diesel; time for recalibration methinks ! also note that the position of the signal infrastructure is thought to be involved hence refraining from comment until the RAIB report is published. But - as noted elsewhere - what has this to do with the 60163 operation on the S&C ?

Seeing there seems to be a bun fight for seats on this service, why is it load 7 + class 67 on the back? Surely they can make it load 10 and a little shove from the back !

There is no reason to respect the dead any more than the living. Respect for the feelings of a dead person's friends and relatives should be considered.

Anyone been able to confirm that some seats will be available to be purchased on the day?

I'm looking at getting the first train off Appleby and to return back from Skipton, but looks like booking reserved tickets now isn't possible.

Maybe 10 won't fit on all of the platforms at the intermediate stations. It is a Service Train not a sideshow though it could turn out to be a pantomime...

I doubt if 7 coaches will fit at both Horton and Garsdale where it calls southbound in the morning and northbound in the evening.

Surely the sensible thing to do is add at least one more coach so the risk for overcrowding and standing is reduced.

    No standing.

Presumably Northern will be monitoring their ticket sales data pretty carefully.

@acorb was commenting on the weather. Looks like snow up there tonight, some more at the weekend and High pressure easterlies for a couple of weeks. Of course that doesn't necessarily translate into blue sky winter conditions but it's better than Atlantic weather.

We already have a train longer than some of the platforms, so even if the stock has CDL some doors will have to be manned.

Sounds like seriously poor ticket management. Surely the booking system could have been programmed not to sell more than 2 TSOs worth of non-reserved tickets and leave one TSO for 'on the day'? We booked on the 27th/28th Jan and only got reserved tickets for the 'middle trains' on the 14th. The Booking system sold me two tickets on the timed trains but with no seat reservations. Wouldn't have bothered booking an expensive hotel in Skipton for 4 nights if there was the likelihood of chaos on Skipton Station for the 1044. Seems unlikely we'll be able to get on the Weds and Thurs trains if they start queuing early there as we'll be on the 0825 down from Appleby. Couldn't organise you know what in a brewery comes to mind. Might have to stay down at Skipton and queue early for the 1044 and forgo the 0825.

This will upset one or two, Skipton, platform 3 will be like Harrods New Year Sale !
"Those who have pre-booked reservations will be guaranteed their place on the relevant service, but for those who have unreserved standard tickets access to the services will be on a first come, first served basis. We strongly advise those who want to travel to arrive early as there will be a formal queuing process in place.”

Sounds like adding more coaches would be the most prudent thing to do. It wont look good at all if there are hundreds of people standing on the platform with them having bought tickets in advance, to then see the train arrive in and only two coaches available for them to board. No standing on the service either means people will be let on and as soon as all seats are taken doors will close.

I can see there being fury at Skipton when many literally turn up having read it in a magazine or in the local paper to board a train that will have set no reservations necessary - and then denied access.

Sadly, even if this became load 10, I can see it being sold out and full on the two runs when it is likely to be busy, but then very quiet on the morning and evening runs and thus jeopardise the costs involved in the operation.

Its obvious to me that the whole thing has been set up to prevent folk planting their bums/ bags/ Towels on seats journey one and then hogging that seat up and down all day, probably three days on the trot. Its clear from certain of the posts on here that this intention was considered reasonable by some and I have no sympathy for their disappointment.

Agreed, but I seriously hope that the queuing system at Skipton is visibly up to the job of managing the flow of people without reservations in a way that is seen to be fair by the locals - I have less sympathy for the enthusiasts.
