On a positive note I do actually believe there is merit in tghis providing the ticketing is resolved, with the caveat that the impact on steam charters still could be negative. It may have legs with different motive power from time to time.

In Skipton. Spoken to locals here and on trains from Manchester and Leeds and hardly anyone knew Tornado was running for the 3 days!!

Agreed, If this was, say, 5- 6 coaches behind a standard 4 Tank every Sunday at say three times the standard ticket price it would be mental for a couple of months max, after that... but you are right if there was a choice of steam to Settle etc or up the Worth valley or Embsay the latter would lose out more that half the time I feel

Definitely, or how about the Newcastle, Carlisle, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle circle.

I mentioned this ages ago, but stock movement costs were posted as the difficulty.

However if A1 Trust get their rake of coaches, based at Darlington, starts in York, then maybe north might be possible.

The end of the conversation ended with the comment that uptake was very poor in the past, if you don't try at least again, you will never find out.

Isn't three times the standard ticket price taking things into the Dalesman/Fellsman territory where you get a lot more steam mileage than Skipton - Appleby/Carlisle?

Whilst I understand that the mid week trips from London would not work has the potential for a midweek from say Birmingham or Manchester been looked at, you could almost do Birmingham/Staffford etc - Preston with an 86 on the front (or a 47/37 if starting at Manchester) and then the normal Fellsman route with steam and then leccy back to Birmingham/disesel back to Manchester would not be too long a day and offer a whole new geographical market as WCRC are also doing with the Chester trains this year?

I wasn't suggesting it would be normal fares as that's just not viable , the Jacobite isn't at £35

The LSL TOC news last week also creates the potential for alternative models. From what was announced they seem to be shaping a portfolio of repeat itinerary on a narrow set of approved routes. They may also better placed for partnership with the other bodies they have worked with so far, pre TOC. Things like prohibitive depot charges may not apply to the same extent?

I counted load 9 through Skipton ! Looked like a complete matching set of MK2's.
