Talking to a BTP officer at Denthead, he said that about 200 had to be left behind at Skipton. They had a 2 car 158 dmu as a relief service that followed about 10 mins behind Tornado

15/02/2017 - A1 60163 Tornado on the Settle-Carlisle line with the 10.44 Skipton to Appleby Plandampf service exiting Blea Moor Tunnel.

I think that speaks volumes about why some of us wondered about contingency arrangements... I'm glad they worked - will it be a 4 car 158 tomorrow?

Studiously ignoring the nay-sayers and avoiding posting yet another stunning photo of Tornado in unbelievably good S&C weather, I will just drop this photo in of some of the A1SLT volunteers who are making these trains possible - without folk like Chris Smith, Andrew Hardy, Graeme Bunker, Ben McDonald (on the loco), David Wright, Tom Blight, Richard Peck, Katie Pearson and Jorge Gorman supporting the locomotive none of this would be possible, not to mention the S&C volunteers and others who have turned out to help on the trains and at stations.....

Cheating but a screenshot from Kirkby Stephen a few minutes ago, as you can see from the clock she was just over 8 minutes down. Many thanks to RailCam for the permission to post this. http://www.railcam.uk/site/

    Super photo, thanks.

As one of those who expressed concerns about overloading and passengers being stranded, I'm delighted to hear that NR had an adequate contingency plan. Well done to them.

If you exposed in Raw then you can bring back burnt out highlights in the raw converter. Make shore the clipping and shadow warnings are activated (top left and right in the histogram). Burnt highlights will show up red, bring the highlights and/or the white slider down until the red disappears. It won't work wonders if its too burnt out and highlights down below -50 will add in some other undesirable results. In s similar way under exposed shadows can be recovered using the shadows and black sliders. The general rule is it's better to lighten up a dark one than recover burnt highlights. If you still have burnout you can cheat in PS by filling in from the surrounding area by using the edi/fill/content aware tool. Hope this helps. Still a good shot btw

Thanks John. A block of text to cut and paste into my 'really useful stuff' folder! I also discovered 'Suncalc' from a fellow linesider today...useful for pre-planning!
