    I must admit that having seen a video of the first train it sounded like the 67 was providing some assistance past Birkett common but other posters suggested it was simply the high revs from providing heat; cue discussion ?

    Please Fred, no! You've had it explained already and @1020 Shireman has told everyone about the railhead conditions. This is also DBC we are talking about so there is really nothing to discuss. Let's move on which means the end of this thread.

    Apologies Al on my "bit of devilment"; I fully understand the situation and am one linesider with no qualms about the use of diesel traction with steam charters. Partly wind-up perhaps but there are some who think that even diesel fumes near a steam charter are cause for complaint !
