Be warned that it may be in the loco prep bay, workshop or triangle area of the Great Hall - maybe a good idea to ring before hand still, despite what it says on the website!

There was a quite ridiculous rumour abounding at a society meeting in Stockport last night (a supposedly genuine text message received by someone who really should know better!), that 60163 would be making a test run, during daylight hours, to Crewe from Arpley today (Thursday).
Given the loco's already planned 12-coach nocturnal sojourn tonight, can we conclusively dispel this latest myth .... or does anyone know any more? Maybe that is going to happen shortly??
Me? It would have passed along the WCML within 1/2 mile of my office, but I certainly shalln't be taking any 'extended lunch hours'!!
    :-k
..............and the weather doesn't look that promising for 'Gresley's' one-way trip over the Pennines on Saturday, either!

Unfortuantly, wednesday's northern echo says, and i quote:

'yesterday was the first time a steam locomotive had travelled on network rail since 1960.'

There are still a lot of people who think that Steam Loco's just trundle up and down Heritage lines. Hopefully all the publicity surrounding 60163 will show them that steam still ventures out on to the National Network. Although this kind of reporting doesn't help! ](*,)

Longish piece on Radio Five Live just now, including interview with Mark Allatt. Loaded test run to Chesterfield tonight, and did I hear the presenter say that "Tornado" was going through the Channel Tunnel in 2010?.

A salient point mentioned on another forum is that 2010 is German Railways 175, and 60163 should in theory be easier to use on other EU railways than on Network Rail.

    Regards,

    Dan

    A thought just struck me.

The newest locomotive working on the British mainline is not, electric or diesel, but STEAM.

In fact if you lined up a class 66, 67, 91 and Tornado I wonder how many of the public would know that Tornado was the newest locomotive!

Virgin Trains are probably pleased at that...

Their brand on 10 coaches behind a loco probably more famous than Scotsman now!

For an ECS run, any rag tag rake of Air Brake stock will do, hence some clapped out air cons you normally only see on diesel day excursions, easier than finding a dual braked mk1 set that most likely will be out on a tour at the weekend.

Anyway why should the state of the art new locomotive wish to be associated with Branson's cramped old trains ;)
