Now, credit where it's due - I *did* get a discounted run on a post-repair trip (I too was on the Ebor Flyer). But I am certain you will never see Tornado do a 90mph run ever again.

Thats also my gut feeling about it, but given all the effort and justification you would think a reasoned statement as to why should be released, but that isnt part of the modern ethos is it, it just stops getting talked about.
No one comes clean or owns up to anything unless compelled to do so by a court judgement these days...

I occasionally wonder whether the A1 Trust would still honour the post-Ebor Flyer discount that my wife and I are due. Amazed that six years have passed now - I have only been on one mainline trip since, which was on a Shakespeare Express, and Tornado seems to have been out of service more than it has been in service in the time since.

That'll be your "commercial sensitivities" these days, also known as "not doing a Ratner".

It's just about possible they might have a record of it being outstanding?

I rolled over the Brum - Glasgow trip twice, and managed to cancel the hotels, but in the end had to request a refund as it became apparent it was highly unlikely ever to run.

I never got wind of the footplate trips (or the credits come to that), though it would be churlish to complain as I’ve been fortunate enough to have been up close on occasions as a cleaner with the support crew.

On enquiry, there will be a tail-gunner which they hope will drop off at Skipton into shadow mode to Carlisle and back ……

It's all gone very quiet from the A1 camp. Is tornado likely to even run this summer ???

They should come clean on the current state of play. They are due at the Nene Valley Railway in three weeks with all the postponed footplate experience slots sold for a second time after the previous cancellation. What credibility they have left is rapidly disappearing.

The lack of updates is seriously making this long time covenantor think about cancelling my support. The last news regarding the overhaul was 1st March when Steve Davies said it was due to begin static testing at the end of March, with main line and ETCS testing in April. It's now almost the end of April and we don't know if static testing has been done even, never mind running in. I don't understand what has happened with the Trust as up until this overhaul there was much more regular information given out. It's certainly not the same Trust that I first became a supporter to.

When you are trying to cadge money out of people communication is rather important. No doubt the team is busy but it is other people's money they are playing with. The time when "communication" was done through a quarterly newsletter has long passed.

Agreed, it all seemed to deteriorate after Mark Allatt left and there have been one or two resignations after that. The only communication I’ve had in months was last week, an invitation to join the P2 valve gear club.
I’ve already made the decision to cancel the covenant and transfer the payments to another locomotive I have an interest in.

is part of the problem regarding comunication down to the lack of someone with the necessary skills to update websites and send out newsletters a couple of railways i am involved with have had issues finding someone to edit their magazines and newsletters recently The lack of volunteers is beginning to bite at quite a lot of railways and locomotive owning groups

About to do the same: I have had one more letter than you, asking for funds for the track at the new workshop and depot. Where have the annual roadshows gone too?

I do wonder though how many more new-builds will be completed other than the obviously advanced ones now, e.g. 72010, 82045: with regards to the P2, I really want to see that completed and running (especially as I've sunk a goodly five-figure sum into it) but where the A1 Trust is concerned, can anyone here realistically see the V4 getting built, let alone the V3 and K3? Maybe even new-builds have had their day now. I do appreciate that people have less disposable income these days too.

Regarding 60163, I have just had an e-mail advertising the S&C trip on the 29th of June so maybe things are progressing?

Not just at railways, I should add. Other organisations I'm a member of are experiencing this.

Crikey, I had an email about that a month ago and booked on it a few days later.

So did I, but I thought it worth mentioning that they're pressing ahead with it.
