Which begs the question where does the stock come from? Basically only two apparently have or will have CDL compliant Mk1's. Most of the Mk2's now have gravitated to 10A.
What is left Mk3's or Mk4's? Are these any more acceptable to the "we must hear the engine and not have a diesel for the coaching power" brigade?

Belmond British Pullman and Royal Scotsman both have opening windows in saloons and compartments: they also both have generator cars.

But I would not see either of them being used on any sort of regular basis for Tornado trips.

Unlikely, but my response was to your point about the “we must hear the engine and not have a diesel for coaching power” brigade.
The BP and RS both meet those criteria.

Presumably this is how we supporters are now supposed to keep abreast of developments with our loco? :Banghead:

The latest issue of The Communication Cord (no. 73) has just been posted - is it not mentioned in there?

Latest issue of TCC very light on P2 progress and at a superficial read, nothing on the new boilers.

NVR announcing that Tornado will not be working the Santa Paws train due to a failure of the loco. The nature of the failure isn’t mentioned.

    Message from the NVR
‘The Santa Paws train will no longer be hauled by Tornado due to the loco suffering a failure.
This service will now see a smaller loco hauling this service. Due to this, we have had to make a change to the departure time.
We will now only be running one service with a departure time of 11:00
If you have already purchased tickets you will receive an email shortly explaining the change.
We are sorry for any inconvenience caused."

Has anything leaked out about the nature of the failure and whether it's serious?

I’ve heard on the grapevine that problems persist with the rocking grate operation, and this had been exacerbated by the coal in use at the NVR which has led to problems with fire bars on their fleet too.

Which lines up with the firebar replacement mentioned at Darlington a couple of weeks ago.
