What foot crossing? The foot crossing marked on the OS map of Northallerton. It crosses the line adjacent to where the Redmire branch joins the ECML - the branch can be seen on the right just before 60163 passes. Not all foot crossings are boarded but the lighter ballast where people have walked can be seen as can the warning signs - albeit edge on - plus the gate on the right near the relay box. Pays to do a bit of research before jumping to conclusions. [-X

It does, but please don't let that get in the way of more out pourings about trespass! I fear that this thread will drift away from the wonderful achievement of the loco and instead be reams of comments re trespass!

Before anyone starts, I don't think there is any doubt that its dangerous, its illegal, there is every chance that it could get steam banned, people will be killed etc! But.. we have debated it to death here and does it actually achieve anything - as I would suggest that most that do it are not members here and thus would not read this!

Can we just concentrate on the wonderful sight of an A1 at speed on the mainline with a train for the first time in x years!

If they were on the crossing, the videographer clearly wasn't, otherwise they wouldn't be able to video the foot crossing?

And I for one have never, ever seen a foot crossing without boarding.

The I suggest you go to the one between Jiggs Lane and Holme Green on the ECML. That was certainly unboarded when I was last there and others exist believe me.
I'm on 60163's trip tomorrow so I'll keep an eye out at Northallerton to check the OS is correct in marking a crossing at the branch junction.

Actually there are a surprising number even in this day and age without boarding.

Whether it is permissible to stand inside the fence line at one of them to take a picture rather than use it for crossing the line is another point entirely .

And the one in the clip is called Springwell Lane. Thanks to my NXEC driver/manager mate Mick for the info.

A cracking sight to see it this morning, loved every minute of it. We went just outside Shipton for the first time near Overton and i thought ohh its quite remote there won't be that many people about, turned out to be hundreds.

A cracking shot with the sun shining straight onto the engine, really looking forward to tomorrow now.
Cracking shots already online, well done :)

Any reason for the lettering on the tender being higher than the cab number? Photos of A1s circa 1950 show the tender lettering lower and in line with the number.

I have seen some great footage of tornado thus far, what a shame however that she is staying on the east coast, It would be great to see her on the WCML or S & C.

I think i can safely reassure you that she isnt staying on the east coast - she's already on two valentine's day tours out of victoria, and it sounds like she's been earmarked for several torbay express runs too. I wouldnt be suprised if we saw the S&C crop up later in the year, but i suppose a substantial amount of WCML running will be dependant on finding a decent path.
