The Train of Hope charity appeal organisers would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of our appeal, which has collected over £35,000 pounds for CLIC Sargent, a national children’s cancer charity. All the people who gave their free time to carry out all sorts jobs, small and big, were essential to this magnificent achievement.
On Saturday 1st October, the specially chartered rail tour named the Train of Hope, ran from Crewe to Carlisle and return, through the countryside of England’s northern fells and Yorkshire dales. The weather was glorious and all the passengers enjoyed good food and spectacular scenery while being hauled by the steam locomotive Scots Guardsman. Delays to the train on its way to Crewe in the morning did not dampen anyone’s enthusiasm and the brass band we had arranged to play in the morning continued after the scheduled departure time.
We have received many emails form passengers in praise of the catering and the organisers, all of which have touched us deeply and made the work we have put in to the appeal worthwhile. Particularly gratifying was an email from a lady who donated to the event after seeing the train pass by while she was walking near the railway line. We have also received thanks for our work from families who have children that are being supported by CLIC Sargent.
Many of the passengers have asked when the next Train of Hope will run. The organising team are still snowed under with work associated with the event and will need time to recover from a very busy year! It is a great idea, so you just might see us again in the future.

Thank you John and the team.
