It is IMHO that lined black with gold trim takes the crown!

I have been following the progress of the repaint at York with great interest (and I have to say, a little dismay at some of the ignorant comments that appear). I am not on facebook so can not reply (probably just as well) and there is no emoticon for "shakes head sadly in disbelief"!
I have also been following the work being done at Shildon, which is taking longer, as there is more involved, but is progressing well.

The team there are doing a great job.
    Cheers

The caption they've put for that pic of the inside of the firebox says it all

Looking at the pictures of 4489/60010 I notice that she has an access hatch just under the Dominion on her LHS nameplate and Canada on her RHS nameplate but in 1937 she didn't have these. Will these be removed and then filled in as part of her cosmetic restoration or will they be left on the loco?

They are doing a wonderful job there. Really looking forward to seeing her complete with the single chimney and bell. A sight I'm not old enough to have seen, but know her best from the books and videos I've observed her in.

A couple of weeks ago, a Facebook message from the NRM stated that the confirmed dates for events will be released last Monday. Did I miss them or have they been delayed?

im all for the a4's to be together, but around the turntable at the nrm (i take it they mean the one inside, not the newly installed one outside) then thats not going to be great for photography, both together or singly. I might be being a little narrowminded being a photographer but i would have thought lined up outside the great hall where open days have been in the past would be more suitable for crowd control aswell as picture taking?

    Regards

    Martyn

I agree that around the turntable is difficult for photography but I don't think there is enough space for the 6 A4's outside the Great Hall. Shildon will have the space outside and the NRM have said they plan to have a lineup at there but when I'm not sure.

Still I'll be heading up to York to see them and hopefully Shildon.

A letter from the NRM that arrived over Christmas says that the six A4's will be displayed at York first and then for the finale of the Mallard 75 events they will be displayed at Shildon. Don't know if this is still the plan as the letter was dated 27th December.
What a convoy for the Main Line though .......... Six A4's between York and Shildon.......................

Looking forward to this event. Just booked on the Uk Railtours HST trip from St Pancras. A very early start for us but I think it will be worth it!

As far as I am aware the planned line up at Shildon is to be the finale of the Trans-Atlantic pair here so this will put the line up at Shildon into 2014. Possibly the September Gala? They have had 7 Deltics lined up so they will have room for 6 A4's.

I don't think that 60008 and 60010 have been given the OK to be towed all that way. We know that Mallard has done the trip both ways, & 60007, 60009 and Bittern are active main line performers, but as for the visitors...

    Interesting concept, mind you.

Wasn't one of them towed from Shildon to York last year by No.9, or am I just imagining things?.........................

Just shunted across at York from the unloading point, I think. Certainly I never saw photos of a main line move...
