    Next Years holiday sorted then....

We're sorry to announce that we're unable to reschedule the Big Boy No. 4014's West Coast Steam Tour in 2022 as we continue to focus on efforts to improve network operations. We will look to reschedule this tour in the future.

Instead, No. 4014 will head south to Denver on Thursday, July 28. The Big Boy will be on display in Denver on Friday, July 29 along with the "Experience the Union Pacific" rail car, a multi-media walk-through exhibition that provides a glimpse of the past while telling the story of modern-day railroading. There will also be a live Q&A with the Steam Crew. Admission is free to Friday's display.

On Saturday, July 30, Big Boy No. 4014 will pull the 2022 Museum Special, a special passenger trip from Denver to Cheyenne, hosted by the Union Pacific Museum. This excursion is the annual gala fundraiser for the Union Pacific Museum, a 501(c)(3) organization, and passengers must be 18 years or older to ride. This is a rare opportunity for the public to travel behind this historic locomotive and on Union Pacific's historic heritage passenger equipment. Before returning to Denver via motorcoach, passengers will have the option to visit Sherman Summit via motorcoach.

Patrons of the Union Pacific Museum will be able to take advantage of a special presale of tickets for the 2022 Museum Special beginning on Friday, July 1 at noon central time. Public ticket sales will begin on Wednesday, July 5 at the Museum's ticketing web site: http://www.uptraintix.com .

A full schedule of the Big Boy's roundtrip excursion to Denver with specific times and locations will be posted at http://upsteam.com in the coming days.

    Until next time, stay safe!

Details of the move of donated Union Pacific locos and rolling stock from Cheyenne to Silvis IL departing on Nov. 11 have now been published https://www.up.com/heritage/steam/schedule/index.htm Interestingly the RRHMA say that they plan restore both steam locos, 3985 & 5511, to running order.

Was always the case, they have a great set of facilities, and was part of the reason for UP to let them go out.
US big loco steam is going to be in a great place soon, many of the parts for 3985 are already manufactured and ready, as part of the 4014 program.

I wonder, firstly what was happening with the train engines at the front and secondly was it a 'set up'

The SD70 didn’t seem to be doing much to help.

Its controlled from UP4014's cab, and requires no driver to operate it.

Union Pacific Steam Club Update No. 30 - Nov. 2, 2023

Union Pacific's famed Big Boy No. 4014, the world's largest steam locomotive, will return to the rails in 2024 for a tour celebrating the railroad's deep history and connection to communities, and its employees. The tour is expected to reach all four corners of Union Pacific's 23-state system with anticipated stops in:

    • Chicago, Illinois
    • Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas
    • Houston, Texas
    • Nampa, Idaho
    • Portland, Oregon
    • Roseville, California
    • Salt Lake City, Utah
"As we move forward at Union Pacific, we remember where we came from; the Big Boy represents the history of Union Pacific and the United States," said Union Pacific CEO Jim Vena. "When No. 4014 comes to town, we will celebrate with the communities where we operate, our employees and their families. Together, we will marvel at how far technology has brought us."

Tour dates and route information will be released in 2024. In addition to public stops, Union Pacific employees and their families will be invited along the route.

    A Safety Reminder!

As a Steam Club member and rail fan, you're more aware of the dangers associated with train operations than your typical neighbor who may be trackside for the first time. Because of your knowledge, we're asking you to have the courage to tell someone if what they're doing is unsafe – whether they're standing on or within 25 feet of the tracks, placing anything on the railroad's right-of-way, running along the ballast or climbing on equipment.

You can help us and the UP Steam program by spreading a message of safety or by reporting unsafe behavior.

That's all for now. Until next time, stay safe!

    Union Pacific Steam Club

My feeling, is this is the time, once the excursion gets announced, holiday gets booked accordingly.

This is the only member of the Heritage fleet (steam and diesel) we haven't travelled behind, all the others were on the Denver Post charter to the Cheyenne rodeo days. They pulled the plug on these before 4014 had chance to do one, so looks increasingly difficult to complete the set.
Be interesting to see what the dates for this tour are when released.
