Not disputing where the numbering initially started but simply pointing out that there were Black 5s numbered below 5000.

Didnt make it clear. Sorry. 5000 was the lowest number of the initial oldest batches
The 4 numbered locos came later when they ran out of 5 numbers

Porterbrook purple as per the preserved English Electric Type 5 D9000 Royal Scots Greys a few years ago and named Pepper Pig..........[the V4 that is]

 

It was 9016 Gordon Highlander that was purple.

Not at all. It was a perfectly valid comment, which could have been made by any of us; and it was only a comment, not a complaint. This thread has suffered more than most from drift.
