Most of those were taken up with the Jubilee class on the LMS. The British Navy has a tradition of recycling ship names, I've lost count of the number of Ark Royal aircraft carriers we've had

What's wrong with the traditional LNER winning racehorse theme? We've got nearly 70 years worth haven't been used. :)

    I wouldn't quite describe a V4 as a racehorse though!

Already been done, No 70019. As they were used for use in Scotland, there's a Scottish breed of chicken called a Scots Grey or perhaps go to Scottish wildlife for inspiration, Ptarmigan or Red Grouse.

What was Ernie's ('The Fastest Milkcart in the West') horse called? .... Aah yes ...... Trigger! And Albert Steptoe's horse was 'Hercules' IIRC. :)

There were at least four. There was a converted merchant ship in WW1, a wartime Ark was sunk and two post war.

the Jubilees ship names were all re-use of names formerly carried by LNWR engines - a nod to railway history

Just call it “Eric” if you want. It wouldn’t be any more daft than some other LNER names

V4 Not sure on this but they we're being built at the same time as V2 s were having Mods done. The V3 was an earlier design and had swing link on the front and side springs on the rear.

Think its highly likely that the new 'bantam' will be built with side control springs, there may not be a requirement for the kind of analysis that was done for the P2 though. Putting the same arrangement on the V3...hmm interesting

As it will be more than 80 years since the building of 3402, why not call it Bantamweight [wait ;-)]

Only if you can find a font for the nameplates that many will need subtitles to make any sense of!

The only year I put a bet on the Grand National (and won!), the winning horse was COMPLY OR DIE.
    So that's my suggestion.

Great potential for an advertising campaign:

Support our locomotive, COMPLY OR DIE!
